Sexologies and theories of sexuality - translation, appropriation, problematisation, medicalisation
Le colloque se propose d’examiner l’histoire des conceptions de la sexualité qui ont été mobilisées – explicitement ou implicitement – dans les différentes constructions sexologiques depuis le dix-neuvième siècle jusqu’aux temps présents. Le champ des connaissances, des théories et des pratiques – le dispositif – qui sont désignées sous le terme de « sexologie » renvoie à des conceptions spécifiques de la sexualité. La sexologie constitue une forme de réponse sociale – et surtout médicale, psychologique, psychiatrique et parfois légale – aux questions posées par les humains à propos de « leur sexualité ». Et à leur tour, les savoirs élaborés par la sexologie influencent la formulation des questions que se posent les personnes sur « leur sexualité ».

Institut d’histoire moderne et contemporaine seminar 2017-2018
L’Institut d’histoire moderne et contemporaine (IHMC) est un laboratoire d’histoire spécialisé dans l’étude des périodes moderne et contemporaine (du XVIe siècle à nos jours). Il s’intéresse à tous les aspects – économiques, sociaux, culturels, religieux et politiques – des processus historiques qui ont construit dans le temps long le monde actuel. Il analyse le développement des espaces économiques, sociaux, culturels, religieux et politiques à partir d’une histoire inter-nationale et trans-nationale à l’échelle européenne et mondiale et étudie dans ce cadre la construction des identités multiples et leurs appropriations individuelles et collectives.

Corporate authority in the shaping of public policy
The power of corporate business has been a subject of intense debate and many social science studies since the 19th century. This conference is based on the idea that, not only has this power varied among industries, countries and different periods, but also that the way in which it is wielded has evolved over time. By bringing together scholars from various backgrounds within the fields of history, sociology, and political science, we intend to provide new insights on the multiplicity, depth and limits of the forms of influence that corporations, or the organizations furthering their interests – business associations, think tanks, communication or public relations agencies, foundations, etc. –, have on public policy.

Sur deux jours, ce colloque souhaite ouvrir une réflexion transdisciplinaire sur la réélaboration collective de la notion de génie, au confluent des discours philosophique, scientifique et artistique, et sur son impact dans la production littéraire de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle.

European Space Agency's Space History Conference
There is more to space than rocket science. Historians, diplomats, economists, law students, political scientists and sociologists have all contributed to our understanding of the space age and its impact on our societies over the past decades. Sixty years on from the placing of the first human-made object in orbit around Earth, space is now an integral part of our daily lives. Space science and technology are projects for the whole of humankind, reaching not only outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also beyond our Solar System. While the technological and scientific challenges of working, living and travelling in space motivate students to pursue such studies, the impact of space activities on our lives on Earth, on relations between nations and organisations, and our collective recent history, provides fertile ground for students and scholars in the humanities to take up space-related subjects.

The contemporary landscape of nano-sciences and nano-technologies
En décembre 1959, Richard Feynman lança le mouvement nano avec son slogan devenu légendaire « il y a plein de place en bas ». Presque 60 ans plus tard, il existe de nombreuses raisons de penser que les nanosciences atteignent ou ont déjà atteint leur maturité : un volume grandissant de publications dans le domaine, des programmes de premier cycle et d’études supérieures, des conférences internationales et une large gamme de projets de recherche sur différents aspects des nanosciences et des nanotechnologies. Quand on le compare à la chimie, à la physique ou à la biologie, on doit reconnaître qu’il s’agit d’un domaine relativement jeune, mais nous souhaitons profiter de cette publication pour faire le point sur ce qui a été réalisé et sur la façon dont le domaine a évolué au cours de sa courte histoire.

Field philosophy and other experiments
This colloquium will bring together leading and emerging scholars to discuss, share, and analyze what similarities and differences there are between their respective humanities research projects, as conducted in the field, and to experiment with what new field practices might emerge from the humanities. How are field practices in the environmental humanities methodologically different from those in cultural anthropology, geography, or sociology? How might field research in philosophy reshape traditionally text-based disciplinary boundaries?

Enjeux politiques et culturels des mises en scène des scences
Ce séminaire se focalise sur l’analyse de l’articulation entre sciences, politique de la science et vulgarisation. Croisant l’histoire des sciences, l’histoire culturelle, la muséologie, l’histoire politique et l’histoire économique, nous chercherons à comprendre comment les conceptions, toujours historiquement et géographiquement situées, des sciences et de leurs rôles sont acculturées dans leur espace de référence et à quelles fins. Nous nous focaliserons moins sur les approches institutionnelles que sur les artefacts, expositions et musées de sciences considérés comme la matérialisation, à un moment donné, d’une conception prédominante des sciences et de leurs rôles. Nous chercherons également à inscrire les questionnements très contemporains liés aux mutations profondes qui affectent actuellement les institutions de recherche, d’enseignement supérieur et de médiation des sciences dans une perspective historique (19e et 20e siècles).

L’Oulipo a investi les savoirs de manière remarquable. Les contraintes, pratiques les mieux connues du groupe, n’ont-elles pas été définies, le plus souvent, autant grâce aux mathématiques qu’à l’érudition (via le plagiat par anticipation) ? On peut encore évoquer la « curiosité », et l’expertise, scientifiques des deux fondateurs du groupe, François Le Lionnais et Raymond Queneau. Le colloque envisagera cette dimension historique. Il tentera de déterminer également la manière dont les savoirs nourrissent les œuvres des oulipiens, avec un accent sur la pseudo-érudition, définie par Georges Perec. Il cherchera à montrer, encore, comment ces œuvres interrogent ou nourrissent les scientifiques institutionnels eux-mêmes.

The European Research Council advanced grant programme “The healthy self as body capital: individuals, market-based societies and body politics in visual twentieth century Europe (BodyCapital)” led by Christian Bonah (université de Strasbourg) and Anja Laukötter (MPIHD, Berlin) on the understanding of body capital and its history, through the twentieth century history of visual mass media (film, TV, Internet) and inédits (amateur, family and private visuals) is now accepting applications for a post-doctoral researcher position for a project related to post-1945 Great Britain.

Nous proposons de revisiter l’œuvre romanesque de Rosny aîné en écartant les questions de généricité pour nous pencher sur une dimension prépondérante de son œuvre pourtant presque ignorée : la temporalité. Trois périodes sont envisagées par l’auteur de La Guerre du feu : la préhistoire et l’antiquité, l’écriture et l’étude du présent et l’anticipation de la destinée des sociétés humaines. Ce colloque se propose d’interroger ces temporalités et de chercher chez Rosny aîné la trace d’un projet romanesque et poétique qui consisterait en une tentative – interrompue par sa mort – de produire une histoire « globale » de l’humanité

Evolution and practices from the 20th-21st centuries
Cette journée d'étude a pour but de voir comment l'idée de soutenabilité culturelle a été intégrée dans les pratiques / actions de la mise en valeur du patrimoine au niveau international, national et local entre le XXe et le XXIe siècles. Pour nous distinguer des travaux déjà réalisés sur la question, il nous est paru intéressant plutôt que chercher à donner une définition de la soutenabilité culturelle, d’interpréter sa spécificité à travers des cas d'études concrets. On souhaiterait mettre l'accent sur le patrimoine industriel et technique, qui s'avère être témoin des grands progrès et innovations de la société.

Le séminaire se consacre à la construction de la santé publique du XIXe au XXIe siècle dans une perspective historienne. Il prend pour objet les processus politiques – de la police médicale à l’hygiène publique et à la gouvernance sanitaire contemporaine – et les dynamiques sociales à l’œuvre dans l’élaboration d’un ensemble de savoirs, de pratiques, d’institutions et de dispositifs de santé publique. Il s’intéresse à l’élaboration des catégories d’analyse qui en rendent compte et aux débats historiographiques qui en relèvent.

Ce numéro spécial de la revue Philosophia Scientiae vise à faire dialoguer, même de manière exploratoire, l'histoire des sciences et celle de l'édition afin d’apporter un éclairage sur la manière dont les sciences se sont élaborées de 1780 à l’entre-deux-guerres, depuis la diffusion de l’Encyclopédie jusqu’à l’émergence d’un marché de masse de l’édition scientifique, qui naît entre autres avec l’édition scolaire dans le dernier tiers du XIXe siècle.

25th Modern Greek Studies Conference of French-speaking universities
The biennial Congress of French-speaking Modern Greek Studies scholars will take place from October 12th to October 14th, 2017 in Aix-en-Provence. Its aim is to bring together researchers from every domain of the humanities and social sciences. The issue at the heart of this 15th Congress is the historical progress of certain areas of study towards the status of full-fledged disciplines of the humanities and social sciences in Greece from the moment of the establishment of the Greek state (1830) and within a context allowing the study of this phenomenon in both its regional and its international dimensions.
The works of the Congress will be organized around the following themes:
1. The emergence, institutionalization, reproduction and diffusion of disciplinary bodies of knowledge.
2. The way each discipline positions itself with relation to other fields of knowledge and implements its theoretical foundations
3. The processes of establishing legitimacy for the new disciplines and for the groups framing them
4. Disciplinarization and the field of Modern Greek Studies
Abstracts must be submitted before February 28th, 2017, in either French or English.

History Review of the technical modernity in France (the twentieth century to the present)
Critical thinking of modernity has never been more relevant. She also has a history, especially since the late eighteenth century. Its players may have been either movements (1810 Luddites to the Surrealists in the late 1950s, and other movements today) or relatively isolated thinkers, and more involved in writing (sometimes the pamphlet) than in transformative political action. The proposed program focuses on this second category, most misunderstood, but also addresses the first category – in both cases over a period extending from the early twentieth century to today. It puts them into perspective with some excitement speeches of the dominant technical modernity that often they criticize, especially in the period of the 1930s and that of the years 1960-1980.

Norbert Elias - sociologist of knowledge and sciences
L’objectif de cette journée d’études sera double. Il s’agira, d’abord, de retracer l’histoire de cet investissement, inséparable, chez Elias, d’une réflexion plus générale sur la spécificité de la sociologie par rapport à la philosophie et à l’histoire. Il s’agira, ensuite, de profiter de sa position « dominée » et du caractère décalé de ses propositions pour éclairer l’émergence et le développement de la sociologie de la connaissance et des sciences entre les années 1920 et 1980.
