Building, feeding towns in the Middle Ages - products, actors and networks
37th study day of the Francophone Belgian Medieval Studies network (RMBLF)
Vivre en ville induit l’apport substantiel de denrées et de matériaux produits hors du contexte urbain. Nourrir une population abondante qui ne produit pas totalement sa propre alimentation, développer un habitat dense et des infrastructures, assurer la distinction de groupes et d’institutions élitaires par la consommation de produits de luxe ou la construction d’édifices remarquables constituent autant d’aspects inhérents à la ville médiévale qui impliquent de l’approvisionnement. Hier comme aujourd’hui, construire, aménager, approvisionner supposent une organisation et une pensée du vivre ensemble. Diverses infrastructures témoignent au Moyen Âge de cette volonté partagée par les habitants du bourg, les bourgeois, qui expriment en outre des prétentions identitaires.

Dans le but de mieux cerner comment l’espace helvétique s’est structuré à partir d’importations et de références étrangères, ce numéro de traverse a pour objectif d’analyser, à différentes périodes, les processus complexes d’absorptions, de transferts et de réinterprétations d’idées et de pratiques diverses, qu’elles soient de nature économique, politique, sociale, anthropologique, culturelle, scolaire ou religieuse. Il s’agira donc d’étudier des processus dynamiques et de considérer l’espace helvétique comme un carrefour, un point de rencontres et d’osmose.

Objet utilitaire mais également d'apparat, le textile se caractérise par l'ancienneté de sa mise au point, la persistance de sa production, la place sans cesse renouvelée qu'il occupe dans nos sociétés successives. Cette activité économique a fortement et anciennement marqué certains territoires, particulièrement en France qui est, au début du XXe siècle, le deuxième producteur mondial. La tradition textile est forte dans les trois territoires qui composent la nouvelle région Grand Est comme le rappellent lieux de médiations d'une part et entreprises industrielles d'autre part.

The use of minted coins was one of the major innovations in the ancient world of the first millennium BCE. Invented in Lydia in the seventh century, coinage spread rapidly throughout the Greek world, first in the Greek cities in Asia Minor, next to Aegina and Athens and soon to the other cities across the Aegean and Mediterranean area. Before the introduction of minted coins, exchange was largely based on weights of precious metals, in smaller amounts weighed on scales, a practice to which striking fixed weights of metal seems just a small and logical step. Yet the swift success of coinage, evidenced by rapidly increasing number of Greek poleis adopting the new medium, shows that the potential of coins to surpass weighed bullion in practical use for all kinds of transactions was recognised early on.

Las siete partidas est un code unique de droit civil dans l’Europe médiévale. Suivant le modèle du Corpus Iuris Civilis, ce document est un vrai code, complet et systématique, organisé en livres, en titres et en lois, qui contraste formellement avec les autres grandes œuvres légales de l'Europe du XIIIe siècle. Dans le même temps, Las siete partidas ont été la source du système légal du royaume médiéval de Castille-Léon, et plus tard, de l'Espagne moderne et de tous les pays de langue espagnole colonisés par la métropole. Las siete partidas ont eu par ailleurs un profond impact sur les autres royaumes péninsulaires du monde hispanophone en raison de sa traduction en portugais, catalan et galicien

Although bankruptcy is a rather exceptional situation in the life of a merchant, it has explanatory power for routines of economic stakeholders. Considering the long, non-uniform and unsteady transition from merchant capitalism to industrial and financial capitalism, we suggest to start a dialog between modernistes and contemporanéistes. The workshop focuses on the various forms of contextualizing business failure and puts forward three major research axes: Covering and uncovering/secrecy and publicity; economic space and area of jurisdiction; temporal narratives of (in)solvency.

Depuis longtemps sujet à controverses, le rôle des corporations dans la société d’Ancien Régime a depuis une quinzaine d’années été réévalué, en particulier pour ce qui concerne le processus de fabrication des biens manufacturés, dont l’organisation collective du travail a assurément permis la complexification technique. Concomitante de profondes mutations commerciales, l’incorporation des activités marchandes n’a pas (ou peu) fait l’objet d’une telle réflexion, et quand bien même cela a pu être le cas, on n’a guère examiné ses résonances concrètes dans les champs économiques, politiques et sociaux où elle se manifeste.

IV seminar of doctoral studies history and economy in the Mediterranean countries
The objective of the seminar will be to understand the importance of intense credit activities at all levels of society, both in urban and rural areas over the long term, from consumer microcredit to the specific problem of the foundation of the Monti di Pietà in the various regional typologies, and to the forms of solidarity credit that, over the centuries, gave rise to more modern forms of banks.

The review Travail et Emploi is planning a thematic issue dedicated to the analysis of the various reforms implemented over the last ten years in the OECD countries to support employment. The OECD and the European Commission have widely recommended reforms aimed at labour market flexibilisation and lowering labour costs, while at the same time countries were undergoing strong budget constraints on both public expenditure and public employment.

On approfondit la connaissance de la culture sociétale des alcools, des modes de consommation, des mentalités vis-à-vis de la consommation, que ce soit au sein des institutions et communautés officielles ou que ce soit à la base. On étudie les systèmes productifs locaux et les systèmes productifs par branche, et leur entrecroisement : vins de Bordeaux et de Bourgogne, champagne, cognac, rhum. On scrute l’évolution de la vie quotidienne des régions productives en fonction des aléas de la guerre. On détermine l’évolution des marchés extérieurs. On soupèse le poids de la commande publique et des marchés de l’Intendance, au sein de l’économie mixte de guerre. On précise le rôle des alcools industriels, avec ses effets sur les industries.

En 2017, le colloque annuel du Comité d’histoire régionale, service de la Région Grand Est, réunira donc des spécialistes de différentes disciplines (histoire, archéologie, histoire de l’art, géographie, droit, sociologie, économie, histoire des techniques, etc.) et d’acteurs actuels du monde du textile pour traiter de ce thème.

Il s’agit de questionner ce grand chantier géopolitique de reconquête du continent africain sur les plans diplomatique, économique, religieux et migratoire ; chantier qui a trouvé son aboutissement les 30 et 31 janvier 2017 à Addis-Abeba, lors du XXVIIIe sommet de l’Union africaine, lorsque le Maroc a été réadmis au sein de l’organisation panafricaine, après l’avoir quittée en novembre 1984.
