Corporate authority in the shaping of public policy
The power of corporate business has been a subject of intense debate and many social science studies since the 19th century. This conference is based on the idea that, not only has this power varied among industries, countries and different periods, but also that the way in which it is wielded has evolved over time. By bringing together scholars from various backgrounds within the fields of history, sociology, and political science, we intend to provide new insights on the multiplicity, depth and limits of the forms of influence that corporations, or the organizations furthering their interests – business associations, think tanks, communication or public relations agencies, foundations, etc. –, have on public policy.

Wine and alcohol during WWI - markets, war economy and production

On approfondit la connaissance de la culture sociétale des alcools, des modes de consommation, des mentalités vis-à-vis de la consommation, que ce soit au sein des institutions et communautés officielles ou que ce soit à la base. On étudie les systèmes productifs locaux et les systèmes productifs par branche, et leur entrecroisement : vins de Bordeaux et de Bourgogne, champagne, cognac, rhum. On scrute l’évolution de la vie quotidienne des régions productives en fonction des aléas de la guerre. On détermine l’évolution des marchés extérieurs. On soupèse le poids de la commande publique et des marchés de l’Intendance, au sein de l’économie mixte de guerre. On précise le rôle des alcools industriels, avec ses effets sur les industries.
