Discernment and procedure in training and the engineering profession
Le réseau Ingenium – Association de recherche en sciences humaines et sociales dans les écoles d’ingénieurs – soulève la problématique des liens entre procédure et discernement dans la formation et l’activité d’ingénieur. Nous aborderons ce questionnement à partir des activités économiques et sociales exercées par l’ingénieur, qu’il s’agisse d’industries lourdes (nucléaire, chimie, extraction), d’activités liées à des problématiques sanitaires (alimentation), de santé (industries pharmaceutiques, hôpitaux), d’environnement (agriculture et industrie), de sécurité (institutions diverses, police, armées, transports) et de nouvelles technologies (numérique, informatique, robotique). Cette liste est loin d’être exhaustive. Nous interrogerons aussi les formations mises en place par les Écoles pour préparer les futurs ingénieurs à ces responsabilités.

Serial crisis, sky-rocketing subscription prices as well as more and more widespread and powerful OA mandates have pushed many publishers to rethink the finance of publishing the journals. Considering a switch calls out numerous challenges but it is a path more and more travelled – and importantly so an economically – sustainable and one with long-term benefits – not only for readers, but also for authors and the journal owners, too. In 2014 De Gruyter converted 14 journals to OA – this webinar looks at overarching strategies for journal transition from subs to OA – including current OA publishing landscape and single factors (like managing submissions, citations and funding) that play a role during the process. Is it worth it? Who will foot the bill? What to expect? And how to bring the EAB on board? The introductory one-hour webinar is built around three sections to allow participants to work out the flipping strategy for their publication and to timely and reasonably plan the change.

Le déploiement des objets et usages numériques dans notre vie affecte notre humanité. Face à ces mutations, est-il possible d’élaborer un cadre favorisant l’émergence d’un humanisme numérique ?

Training school
This training school provides participants with insights into the theories and practices of stimulating impact creation from social sciences and humanities research. It will focuses on three specific dimensions. Firstly, creating a conceptual understanding on the specificities of social sciences and humanities (SSH) impact and non-linear impact models. Secondly, alternative appropriate policy frameworks for maximising SSH impact. Finally, we will explore ways of supporting scholarly practices to optimise the creation of impact through SSH research, and capturing this with evaluation systems.

Les commémorations du bicentenaire du Muséum national d’histoire naturelle, en 1993, ont permis de démontrer la validité d’une histoire historienne du Muséum. Depuis, la recherche s’est révélée féconde. Dans un cadre national et international, elle se lie aux développements de tout le champ, de l’histoire naturelle à l’histoire des sciences de l’Homme, dont l’anthropologie et la préhistoire, et met en valeur les ressources archivistiques et patrimoniales du Muséum.Le séminaire « Le Muséum national d’histoire naturelle, objet d’histoire. Recherches, hommes, institutions, patrimoine, enseignement » entend contribuer au partage de la vitalité de ces travaux autour d’un établissement, de ses métiers, de ses réseaux et de ses modèles intellectuels.

This ascendancy rests on the transmission to other national academies of theoretical constructs and views, methods and institutional practices. On the other hand, German philological and linguistic ideas, methods and institutions were not constituted in isolation from the rest of the world : Transfers to the German-speaking world must also be taken into account.

L’objectif de ce numéro de Temporalités est de mettre en lumière la diversité et l’apport des perspectives temporelles dans l’analyse des réseaux. La question des temporalités concerne à la fois l’évolution des réseaux comme structures sociales, l’évolution des entités qui les composent, et celle des relations (moments d’émergence, de renforcement ou d’affaiblissement, d’interconnexions, et éventuellement de rupture des liens). Comment évoluent des systèmes relationnels ? Comment rendre compte des dynamiques complexes qui les animent ?

Now more than ever, gender as an analytical concept is being heavily contested from diverse quarters inside as well as outside academia. The panel discussion addresses key questions of how to teach gender as critical theory in the light of current societal and political tensions on the one hand and institutional constraints inside the university on the other hand. How can we teach “critique”? What does teaching gender mean in terms of methods and topics? And how can we engage in critical research and teaching while responding to societal expectations as to relevant output and knowledge transfer?

Pratiques, instruments, et matérialités de la visualisation de corps
Dans le cadre des travaux du groupe de travail « Corps, techniques et société » (CETCOPRA/AFS) sur les territoires corporels des techniques, la journée d’étude « Voir, savoir, donner à voir » propose de poursuivre les réflexions du groupe, ayant donné lieu à une série de rencontres autour de l’imagerie médicale et moléculaire. Nous y reprendrons notre problématique initiale en trois questions : la question de la production des images ; la question de la construction d’un regard ; et la question du diagnostic.

The politics of modeling and computing for policy
The aims is to putting in discussion the modes and effects of the use of computational tools in government and public policies. Computation, be it based on statistical modeling or newest techniques of predictive analytics, holds the promise to be able to anticipate and act infallibly on futures and uncertain situations more generally. That the future is an object of governmental knowledge and action is nothing new though. So, what is the characteristic of today’s relationship with futures in policy making and action? To what extent do the means of computation – from statistical models to learning algorithms employed in predictive analytics — change this relationship, and the collective capacity and legitimacy to engage with future, uncertain situations? Do technologies of prediction change policies and their politics and, if so, how?
