It is indisputable that the Reform gave rise to one of the most decisive events in European history and the world at large, having thoroughly influenced the theological, historical, mental and political perceptions of western culture.

  Censorship and style

  Le colloque se fixe comme finalité d’étudier les relations encore mal déterminées entre la censure et le style, en prenant prioritairement le terme de censure en son sens littéral et juridique mais éventuellement dans ses usages métaphoriques. Longtemps le censeur a été décrit comme un agent dépourvu de sensibilité littéraire : d’une part, il n’accorderait aucune attention à la valeur littéraire des textes poursuivis ; d’autre part, ses examens seraient sans style, soit qu’il use d’un pur langage administratif, soit qu’il se contente de proférer des anathèmes convenus.

  First issue of new journal “Early Modern Low Countries”

  In the spring of 2017, Early Modern Low Countries (EMLC) will publish its first issue. The new open access journal will appear in two installments every year, containing high-quality, original scholarship for an international readership on any aspect of the history and culture of the Low Countries between 1500 and 1800. The successor of two well-reputed Dutch-language journals (De Zeventiende Eeuw and De Achttiende Eeuw) EMLC aspires to publish papers by scholars from various disciplinary backgrounds working anywhere in the world.
