  Call for papers - Epistemology and methodology

  The emergence of the Ḥadīṯ as the authority of knowledge, 4th/10th and the 8th/14th century

  One of the questions raised today by some Egyptian religious authorities is on the lawfulness and relevance of using intellectual tools foreign to the Islamic tradition to read and interpret the Qurʾān and texts of the classic Islamic heritage. Is it permissible and appropriate to use contemporary human sciences to study the texts of the Arab-Islamic patrimony or should it be limited to the Ḥadīṯ? IDEO would like to contribute to this debate by studying the emergence of the Ḥadīṯ as the authority of knowledge in the Islamic sciences between the 4^_ᵗʰ/10ᵗʰ and the 8ᵗʰ/14ᵗʰ century.

  Depuis sa fondation, le Centre Pierre Abélard (université Paris-Sorbonne) a prévu d’accueillir une fois par an un médiéviste international de renom pour dispenser une série de leçons à la Sorbonne. Pour l'édition 2017, le titulaire de la Chaire Pierre Abélard est le professeur Stephen Gersh (university of Notre Dame) les 11, 12 et 13 mai prochains en Sorbonne.

  Monastic writings and dependencies II

  Archives on the move, 9th-15th century

  Cette rencontre scientifique s’intègre dans un cycle thématique de recherches sur les écrits des dépendances monastiques, engagé par Claire Lamy et Jean-Baptiste Renault. Une première journée a été organisée en septembre 2015 à l’université de Poitiers. La rencontre concerne particulièrement l'histoire des relations entre les dépendances et leur maisons-mères envisagée par les transferts d'archives.
