World heritage - an exceptional universal value
Depuis son adoption par la Conférence générale de l’UNESCO en 1972, la Convention pour la protection du patrimoine mondial, culturel et naturel rencontre un succès que suggèrent le décompte des candidatures à l’inscription et les chiffres de la fréquentation touristique des sites inscrits. Loin des débats et controverses qui agitent les instances internationales de l’organisation onusienne, l’inscription sur la liste du patrimoine mondial fait de toute évidence sens pour tout un chacun. L’on peut cependant s’en étonner, à considérer combien le principe de « valeur universelle exceptionnelle », acclimaté à chaque site, est oxymorique.

Pour leur deuxième édition, les Ateliers doctoraux des Arts Visuels au Maghreb et au Moyen-Orient — XIXe-XXIe siècle souhaitent interroger l'usage des termes qui rendent compte de l'exercice de la temporalité en art et les enjeux historiographiques qu'ils supposent. Sera au cœur du travail l'étude des usages des termes « moderne », « contemporain », « actuel » et « avant-garde » au sein des discours de l'art de la région.

Beethoven's opera in celebrations and commemorations (19th-21st centuries)
Fidelio est au cœur des célébrations marquant les jubilés de la naissance ou de la mort du compositeur, mais l'opéra est aussi l’objet de diverses appropriations, voire récupérations, idéologiques et politiques au XXe siècle, notamment sous l’effet des différents régimes autoritaires. Sur la base des idéaux que l’opéra incarne musicalement et scéniquement, il convient de questionner les multiples usages dont l’opéra de Beethoven a fait l’objet, du XIXe siècle à nos jours, en Europe et dans le monde.

Die Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften (BBAW) ist eine Körperschaft des öffentlichen Rechts mit Sitz in Berlin. Ihr wissenschaftliches Profil ist vor allem geprägt durch langfristig orientierte Grundlagenforschung der Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften. Die Akademie beschäftigt etwa 350 Mitarbeiter/innen, ihr Jahresbudget beträgt rund 20 Mio. Euro. Die Akademie sucht für das Akademienvorhaben „Alexander von Humboldt auf Reisen – Wissenschaft aus der Bewegung (AvH-R)“ zum 1. Oktober 2017 eine/n wissenschaftliche/n Mitarbeiter/in mit 80% der tariflichen Regelarbeitszeit, zunächst befristet für zwei Jahre.

Reading and analysing Ottoman manuscript sources
During the four-day programme we will introduce young researchers (mostly MA and PhD candidates, but postdocs may also apply) to reading, combining and analysing manuscript sources from various archives of the Ottoman era, produced at local, provincial and imperial levels. We concentrate mainly on materials from the 16th and 20th centuries, but welcome also explorations into earlier archives.

Theme issue of the journal Études arméniennes contemporaines (EAC n° 8 – Decembre 2017)
The history of the large-scale massacres committed against the Armenians under the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II, in 1894-1896, is still largely unknown, its sources underutilized or not studied at all. This period of extreme violence, a watershed in the political and social history of the Ottoman Empire, raises many questions about the similarities and differences with the genocidal process of 1915-1916. We invite submissions on a broad range of topics and disciplinary approaches for this special issue. Relevant studies may include chronological analyses of the events of the 1890s themselves, as well as analyses of the consequences of that era of violence up to the present day. At the heart of this issue lies the question of the precedent: what links can be established between the genocide and the mass crimes that preceded it – an issue relevant to the study of other twentieth-century genocides.

New perspectives on the concept of authorship, 1700-1900
The goal of this conference is to reassess, challenge, and enlarge the concept of authorship, by giving the author a post-mortem of sorts. To do this, we want to bring together fresh and critical historiographical perspectives on the concept of authorship, and challenge participants to think in comparative and transnational frameworks. Ideally, we seek to draw together work from a wide variety of sub-disciplines, creating a dialogue which connects often-separated fields such as book history and literary history.

La Grande-Bretagne occupe une position privilégiée dans cette région qu’elle contribue à définir et à redéfinir à mesure qu’elle y développe un « empire par traités » au début du vingtième siècle et après la première guerre mondiale.
