  Light(s) and darkness(es)

  Special issue of “Journal of Energy History” (JEHRHE)

  If historians of art have generally investigated complex dynamics between light and dark more than historians, light is still too often analyzed alone, without reference to darkness. For these reasons, this special issue of Journal of Energy History (JEHRHE) aims to challenge this reductionistic framework, which simplifies the complex variety of historical (and contemporary) cases, in order to explore the nuances of light and darkness created by candle, kerosene, oil, gas, and electricity and therefore tease out the diverse, sometimes contradictory, meanings and experiences of light(s) and darkness(es) in the past. We thus seek to study the juxtaposition of light and dark, placing this contrast in dialogue within broader conversations in the history of energy, environmental history, the history of technology, and related fields.

  Above all, the call for papers emphasizes the correlation between hospitality and space. Jacques Godbout, in his article "Receiving is to give", specifies that hospitality is a "gift of space". So what are the characteristics of these given spaces? Are they permanent, temporary or transitional? Are there inherent areas of hospitality? And how are they built? From hospitals to home, what are these spaces and what is their spatial nature? And what meaning of hospitality do these spaces convey? What kind of space does hospitality produce?

  The 5^th issue of L’Autre musique magazine will extend the survey of L’Autre musique laboratory: “New ways of writing sound and music”. It will question the relevance of the notion of “partition” in relation to the new practices of sound and music, and, more generally, to all contemporary arts: alternative scores (graphic, video, photographic …), interactive forms, performances and Sound installations writings, notations for dance, scenic performances, but also digital arts, even literature, poetry, architecture, etcetera.

  Heritage and psychiatry

  Depuis une dizaine d’années en France, la multiplication des travaux de recherche sur l’histoire de la psychiatrie s’accompagne d’une mise en valeur nouvelle des archives produites par les hôpitaux psychiatriques. Ces établissements, longtemps considérés comme des lieux repoussoirs, construits en marge des villes ou dissimulés derrière de hauts murs, s’ouvrent aujourd’hui non seulement aux chercheur.e.s mais aussi au public, accueilli ponctuellement lors des journées du patrimoine ou toute l’année dans les musées ouverts au sein de plusieurs centres hospitaliers. Le succès rencontré par ces initiatives témoigne de l’intérêt suscité par le patrimoine médical, scientifique, technique, architectural et naturel des hôpitaux psychiatriques.

  International Conference on the values of tangible heritage

  Tangible heritage is the support of some of the most relevant and perennial values of Mankind. It connects us with History, projects us to past environments and to lost cultural contexts, includes landmarks of our identity and constitutes a relevant economic asset. Therefore tangible heritage has intangible aspects inextricably associated to it and when tangible heritage is addressed, intangibility matters. Conservation of tangible heritage is a cultural act with the value approach as a leading concept. The protection statutes, the arguments used to sustain the protection policies, the management options and definition of priorities, the allocation of resources and the uses of heritage assets are intimately connected and dependent on values, bringing to focus the intangible side of their nature.

  The places we think - stages, museums and libraries

  Nous nous proposons, au cours d’un cycle de journées d’études et de colloques d’examiner la façon dont des lieux – la scène, l’espace muséal et la bibliothèque, dans leur acception la plus large – génèrent et modèlent de la pensée. Il s’agira de mettre à l’épreuve une hypothèse : que ces « lieux » déterminent des modes d’exercice de la pensée qui leur sont propres, tant du côté de ceux qui y « œuvrent » que du côté des publics ; qu’ils peuvent, conjointement, être conçus – fabriqués, pensés, analysés, interprétés – comme des espaces de pratique de la pensée, ou d'exercice de la philosophie – fut-elle simplement une potentialité, qui s’actualiserait de façon fugace, sommaire – là où d'autres lieux (et parfois les mêmes) seront pensés sous l'espèce de lieux de mémoire, ou de lieux de savoir.
