2017 general assembly of the "Humanist virtual libraries" research project
L’année 2017 aura été particulièrement marquée par la mise en œuvre de la campagne de numérisation à la m édiathèque Louis-Aragon du Mans dans le cadre du projet partenarial « Bibliothèques humanistes ligériennes » ainsi que par l’école d’été Bibliotheca Digitalis qui nous a permis de réunir 20 stagiaires internationaux et une vingtaine d’intervenants, tant chercheurs en science shumaines et sociales ou informatique que bibliothécaires et archivistes.

Paul Otlet and the protodigital humanities
Cette journée vise à faire le point sur l'œuvre de Paul Otlet afin de la resituer au sein du mouvement des humanités digitales. Paul Otlet en tant que théoricien de la documentation impulse des perspectives nouvelles en matière de systèmes d'information. Cela lui a valu une reconnaissance tardive et un intérêt renouvelé depuis que certains travaux américains en font de lui un précurseur du web voire de la société de l'information actuelle. La journée laisse place à plusieurs interventions autour de son œuvre, de l'intérêt de développer une histoire longue des humanités digitales et d'interroger les perspectives nouvelles qui pourraient être amorcées actuellement.

Digital societies - doctoral days of the Maison des sciences de l'Homme Ange-Guépin
Journées doctorales de la Maison des sciences de l'Homme Ange-Guépin
Ces journées doctorales portent sur le thème : Mutations des pratiques en régime numérique. Ce thème couvre l'ensemble des recherches qui visent à comprendre les processus à l'œuvre dans la transformation des pratiques sociales (recherche, travail, économie, enseignement, citoyenneté, etc.) liées au numérique, dans son acception la plus large. Elles portent également sur le thème : Critiques, appropriations, résistances. Il s'agit ici de s'intéresser à l'ensemble des expressions ou des formes de mises à distance à la fois par rapport aux mutations qui s'opèrent sur les pratiques, et par rapport au numérique pour ce qu'il représente et ce qu'il engage. Les méthodologies liées à la compréhension des phénomènes de numérisation des sociétés, les stratégies, économiques, politiques, organisationnelles de dépassement des résistances et les idéologies qui les accompagnent, font partie des réflexions de ce thème de recherche.

Electronic publishing and text encoding initiative (TEI): issues, practices and perspectives

Animée par une importante communauté universitaire internationale, les recommandations dites TEI-P5 pour l’encodage numérique de documents permettent de réaliser des éditions critiques numériques, d’en faciliter l’analyse, d’en garantir la pérennité formelle par l’utilisation du langage XML, tout en rendant possibles des modes de visualisation multiples (alignement de versions, mise en évidence de réseaux, etc.). La journée dayClic TEI permettra à la fois de faire un tour d’horizon de l’ensemble de l’infrastructure TEI (communauté de pratiques, échanges scientifiques, logiciels, manières de faire fructifier le passage en XML-TEI pour un projet de recherche) et de présenter des projets concrets issus de différentes disciplines des lettres, langues et sciences humaines de manière à mettre en évidence à la fois la démarche de travail et les résultats à en attendre.

Journal transition from subscription model to open access

Serial crisis, sky-rocketing subscription prices as well as more and more widespread and powerful OA mandates have pushed many publishers to rethink the finance of publishing the journals. Considering a switch calls out numerous challenges but it is a path more and more travelled – and importantly so an economically – sustainable and one with long-term benefits – not only for readers, but also for authors and the journal owners, too. In 2014 De Gruyter converted 14 journals to OA – this webinar looks at overarching strategies for journal transition from subs to OA – including current OA publishing landscape and single factors (like managing submissions, citations and funding) that play a role during the process. Is it worth it? Who will foot the bill? What to expect? And how to bring the EAB on board? The introductory one-hour webinar is built around three sections to allow participants to work out the flipping strategy for their publication and to timely and reasonably plan the change.

Le séminaire étudie l'organisation du travail intellectuel à partir de l'activité de publication scientifique du XIXe siècle à aujourd'hui. En 2017-2018, il continuera les enquêtes en cours sur les revues, en s'intéressant aux acteurs éditoriaux et au lectorat (bibliothèques, laboratoires...) ainsi qu'aux circuits particuliers de diffusion. Il mobilise l'expérience d'historiens du livre, d'historiens des sciences, d'anthropologues et de sociologues comme de spécialistes des sciences, des sciences de l'information et des humanités numériques.

Crowdsourcing as a means to share, enrich and publish heritage sources
The wide variety of these projects, their objects, and their contributing “crowds” is striking: “Transcribe Bentham”, “Zooniverse”, etc. not forgetting Wikipedia. Facing this fact, it seems interesting to allow researchers from various disciplinary origins to gather and question crowdsourcing together. A large number of questions are at stake, from a scientific point of view, but also sociologically and ethically: are there common practices to these projects that are so different in their objects, objectives, data, and contributors? We thus wish, during this international and interdisciplinary conference, to confront theories, reflexions and sharing out of experiences on this subject.

A symposium, New Directions for Libraries, Scholars, and Partnerships, will take place on Friday, October 13, 2017, at the German National Library during the Frankfurt Book Fair. The Symposium is sponsored by the Collaborative Initiative for French Language Collections (CIFNAL) and the German-North American Resources Partnership (GNARP), both working projects of the Center for Research Libraries (Chicago, USA), with support from the German National Library and other French, German, and international partners. Session topics include: collections and collaboration; digital scholarship; the publishing revolution; new dimensions of service to scholars and students; and new strategies for services and partnerships.

Introduction to Digital Humanities
This study day aims to present various aspects of digital humanities (norms, competences, projects, actors). Public concerned: PHD students, master students, last-endof bachelor students, researchers, in humanities, letters, history, archeology, linguistics, foreign literature. The manifestation is free and no previous competencesare required. In the morning 2 workshop sessions will introduce several digital tools (registration required). In the afternoon, several conferences will introduce various aspects of the digitalhumanities and methods, and will present some example of projects in two main themes: edition and databases.

The literary digital humanities?
Le numérique bouleverse le champ des lettres sous divers angles : la création, l’archivage et la conservation des textes, mais aussi l’enrichissement des données et leur usage. Il oblige à penser un nouvel humanisme littéraire, dont les objets, les pratiques, les conditions d’existence et les finalités sont à définir. On peut distinguer, dans ce qui scande la démarche du numérique littéraire, trois temps bien différents: la numérisation en vue de la constitution de données et de corpus ; l’intelligence des textes, par la fouille de données et l’herméneutique assistée ; la transformation de la vie littéraire et de l’activité critique.

Survey on open scholarly communication
The OPERAS (Open access in the European research area through scholarly communication) consortium is launching a survey on the usage of open scholarly communication in Europe, in particular in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities. The purpose of the survey is to identify current practices and services that should be developed or invented. It will serve as a basis for defining the future infrastructure OPERAS. The survey is addressed to five different audiences, all actors, in various capacities, of open access: publishers, researchers, libraries, funders and the general public.

DARIAH Summer school
This summer school for advanced humanities students, scholars, archivists and librarians is devoted to the reflection on the nature and the future of digital datasets in Humanities. The first day will introduce the problems and goals of the summer school, with an plenary lecture on the theoretical basis of digital documents and a historical overview of the information and communication problems in Early Modern France. Subsequent days will alternate presentations in the morning with practical workshops in the afternoons. Participants will learn how to process source documents in a digital environment using appropriate tools. A variety of sample source documents, selected from local libraries and archives collections and digitized in advance, will be available as supporting materials for the workshops.

Teaching ancient languages in the digital era - learning through and four the digital humanities
Cette journée d'étude est organisée dans le cadre du projet TALIE (Traditions de l'Antiquité à Lille et dans l'Eurorégion). À cette occasion, nous voudrions explorer le lien qui peut exister dans un parcours universitaire et professionnel entre les langues et cultures de l'Antiquité d'une part, et les humanités numériques d'autre part. S’il est vrai que la logique, la rigueur, l’attention au détail, le travail sur la syntaxe, sont nécessaires tant pour l’étude de la langue et des textes antiques que pour le maniement des langages informatiques, nous voudrions réfléchir à la question suivante : comment concevoir des méthodes pédagogiques permettant à l’une et à l’autre de ces disciplines de se renforcer mutuellement ?
