Secondo seminario di ricerca del programma «Lettresarts. Lettres d’artistes. Pour une nouvelle histoire transnationale de l’art (XVIIIe‐XIXe siècles), organizzato dalla École française de Rome con il supporto della Bibliotheca Hertziana - Istituto Max Planck per la storia dell'arte. A un anno dall’inizio del programma di ricerca Lettres d’artiste, questo seminario si propone di fare il punto sulle ricerche in corso nel quadro del programma, analizzando i primi risultati e affrontando le questioni metodologiche ancora aperte circa il censimento, la schedatura, il trattamento informatico e l’analisi degli epistolari artistici tra Sette e Ottocento.

New approches to Ruskin on Art and Architecture
In advance of his bicentenary in 2019 this conference will provide the opportunity togather together, present and exchange new approaches by emerging scholars to the work of the nineteenth-century art critic, art writer, art historian, artist and social commentator John Ruskin, with particular emphasis on his work on art and architecture as understood to constitute the kernel of Ruskin’s engagement with human society and experience.

Male bonds in nineteenth-century art
Male Bonds is a two-day international conference that aims to explore the place of male bonds in nineteenth-century artistic practice and visual arts. The conference invites participants to reflect on the ways in which changing notions of masculinity and male sexuality impacted forms of sociability between men in the artistic scene of the long nineteenth century. In so doing, it seeks to build a bridge between traditional art-historical scholarship and the fields of gender and gay and lesbian studies.

First international seminar for post-graduate students in Sport History
A first international seminar for PHD and post-graduate students in sport history (political and cultural perspectives) supervised by Prof. Dave Day (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Prof. J.-F. Loudcher (Bordeaux) is planned at Bordeaux between the 11th September and the 13th September 2017. It is the first of a series of seminars between the two universities (the next will be in Manchester) and will provides an opportunity to establish new relationsships and partnerships with students ands researchers from all over the world. In addition, this one will have a workshop on European project research funding on cultural and political sport coaching in a comparative way for an application in 2018. It is possible to just attend the seminar and the workshop.

Nouvelles approches critiques, nouveaux regards d'historiens
Ce numéro thématique de la revue NAQD entend proposer un regard critique sur l'histoire et l'historiographie de la période ottomane en Algérie et se faire l'écho de nouvelles approches et interprétations. L'idée est pour ce numéro de soumettre à l'analyse critique les paradigmes issus de l'histoire coloniale et de la narration nationale par une méthode de recherche située au plus près des sources et s'attachant à ne prendre aucune des causalités interprétatives anciennes pour stable ou définitive.

Medals and tokens in Europe, from the Renaissance to the First World War
Au XVe siècle, la médaille renaît dans les cours italiennes et revêt une valeur commémorative qui s’étend aux autres souverainetés européennes. Les médailles, les jetons et autres objets monétiformes sans valeur fiduciaire se répandent alors pour connaître de véritables moments d’apogée durant les XVIIe, XVIIIe et XIXe siècles : les plus célèbres manifestations de cette production étant, par exemple, l’édition d’histoires métalliques de Louis XIV à Napoléon, en passant par le Tsar de Russie. Malgré les fluctuations du goût qui lui font successivement connaître des périodes de renom puis de défaveur, la médaille ne perdit jamais de sa force d’usage et fut tout autant employée par les régimes républicains pour véhiculer leurs idéaux.

Ces dernières années, la problématique de la préservation de l’architecture du XXe siècle a préoccupé la communauté des historiens de l’architecture et des architectes. Le cas de l’architecture du XXe siècle, en raison de sa faible ancienneté, de sa pérennité parfois fragile, et de sa présence massive dans les espaces urbanisés, est assurément spécifique, mais il est aussi un marqueur de l’évolution des pratiques et des représentations patrimoniales dans leur ensemble.

Theme issue of the journal Études arméniennes contemporaines (EAC n° 8 – Decembre 2017)
The history of the large-scale massacres committed against the Armenians under the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II, in 1894-1896, is still largely unknown, its sources underutilized or not studied at all. This period of extreme violence, a watershed in the political and social history of the Ottoman Empire, raises many questions about the similarities and differences with the genocidal process of 1915-1916. We invite submissions on a broad range of topics and disciplinary approaches for this special issue. Relevant studies may include chronological analyses of the events of the 1890s themselves, as well as analyses of the consequences of that era of violence up to the present day. At the heart of this issue lies the question of the precedent: what links can be established between the genocide and the mass crimes that preceded it – an issue relevant to the study of other twentieth-century genocides.

The past of others and the experience of history in Quebec (19th-20th centuries)
Si les représentations du passé des autres sont en général bien connues, ses appropriations et ses utilisations le sont moins. L’objectif de ce projet est d’explorer l’appropriation d’événements, d’expériences ou de mythes de l’histoire étrangère par les Québécois à des fins à la fois de relectures de l’histoire du Québec et de mobilisation du passé pour transformer la société.
