  The epoch of space. State and new perspectives

  For centuries, the study of time was one of the main academic interests in the field of Humanities. However, in the second half of the 20^th century, most scholars and philosophers shifted their focus to the question of space. The interest in studying this in the field of the arts has increased significantly in recent years, and is especially noticeable in the case of literary creations.The growing influence of ecocriticism and geocriticism is especially noticeable in digital humanities. The bridges recently built between these fields are already proving to be productive, as they have led to the development of new tools, approaches, and methodologies, such as deep mapping techniques and the spatial humanities. How have the disciplines evolved in recent years? Do we need to redefine the key concepts regarding space and place? Has our relationship with territory changed? Have we produced new ways of inhabiting space?

  The Right to Lefebvre

  En France, l’œuvre d’Henri Lefebvre n’a pas eu le plus grand des succès, contrairement au continent Américain où ses travaux ont fortement résonné. Henri Lefebvre est aussi considéré comme un personnage influent de mai 1968 pour avoir promu l’autonomisation de ses étudiants au sein d’une université très hiérarchisée à l’époque, et aussi pour avoir démontré les excès de la mondialisation capitaliste et de l’urbanisation. À 50 ans de ces révoltes étudiantes et de la publication du Droit à la ville, par cet appel à colloque international et pluridisciplinaire, nous travaillerons donc à l’actualisation de la pensée lefebvrienne pour célébrer une œuvre à la croisée de la philosophie, de la géographie et de la sociologie, attachée à révéler les possibles déjà-là de l’émancipation ainsi qu’à l’analyse du capitalisme contemporain. Nous questionnerons la validité et l’actualité des outils conceptuels, méthodologiques et analytiques que l’auteur a légués dans la continuité des travaux amorcés à l’UNAM (Mexico) en 2016.

  The editors are looking for articles, translations, interviews as well as book or performance reviews. América Crítica is a peer reviewed, biannual journal published by CISAP (Centro Interdipartimentale di Studi sull’America Pluriversale) at the University of Cagliari, Italy. It publishes unsolicited articles related to any area of American Studies, Latin American Studies and Hemispheric American Studies (literature, history, linguistics, arts, cultural studies, film studies, politics, social sciences and anthropology). It especially welcomes contributions focusing on a comparative approach, native and/or minority cultures in the Americas, American urban cultures, and marginal and contested cultures and identities in the Americas.

  Violence in the Americas - American Studies doctoral and post-doc study day, 2018

  L’extrême violence qui sévit aujourd’hui en Amérique latine peut-elle constituer un observatoire privilégié des phénomènes de violence à différentes échelles spatiales et temporelles ? La « violence de rétribution » (Beik, 2007) des subalternes en demande de justice peut s’opposer à la « violence légitime » de l’Etat (Weber, 1998 [1971]), à la « violence symbolique » (Bourdieu, 2012) des institutions, ou encore à la violence structurelle des rapports d’oppression de classe, de genre et de race. L’objectif sera de proposer une démarche pluridisciplinaire de l’étude de la violence – trop souvent cantonnée à des champs disciplinaires – ainsi que d’identifier les problématiques permettant de penser l’intrication des différentes échelles d’analyse.

  The Right to Lefebvre

  Call for papers about Henri Lefebvre and his work

  Le colloque Henri Lefebvre : Une pensée devenue monde, organisé à l’Université Paris Ouest-Nanterre en 2011 en est une autre manifestation. Toutefois cet intérêt est assez relatif, puisque le peu de chercheur-e-s qui s’y intéressent sont souvent des philosophes. A l’exception de quelques figures, comme Jean-Pierre Garnier, qui mobilise explicitement cet auteur dans la majorité de ses travaux en sociologie urbaine, les sciences sociales semblent globalement continuer de l’ignorer. Même dans la géographie critique, Lefebvre n’est pas toujours cité comme une référence au contraire de David Harvey et Edward Soja, qui pourtant revendiquent une filiation directe aux chantiers conceptuels ouverts par Lefebvre. Cela peut s’expliquer par des divergences méthodologiques, épistémologiques, mais également politiques quant à l’appropriation du corpus.
