  The Hydraulics in Monumental Buildings

  The hydraulic system is an architectural subsystem that can only be understood in view of the dual constitution of its structure: one at ground level, that referrers to potable water (lower hydraulic subsystem), and other concerning rainwater (upper hydraulic subsystem). They both involve aspects of major importance for the functioning of any building: catchment, distribution and evacuation of the waters. In the last decade, research was carried out on the hydraulic component of historical architecture, either religious or civil, considering technical and artistic issues, not only in Portugal, but throughout Europe.

  The epoch of space. State and new perspectives

  For centuries, the study of time was one of the main academic interests in the field of Humanities. However, in the second half of the 20^th century, most scholars and philosophers shifted their focus to the question of space. The interest in studying this in the field of the arts has increased significantly in recent years, and is especially noticeable in the case of literary creations.The growing influence of ecocriticism and geocriticism is especially noticeable in digital humanities. The bridges recently built between these fields are already proving to be productive, as they have led to the development of new tools, approaches, and methodologies, such as deep mapping techniques and the spatial humanities. How have the disciplines evolved in recent years? Do we need to redefine the key concepts regarding space and place? Has our relationship with territory changed? Have we produced new ways of inhabiting space?

  La revue Cahiers de Framespa lance un appel à contributions pour son numéro 2019/3, dont le dossier s'intitule « Le “Brésil littéraire” vu de l’étranger – perspectives transnationales (de 1822 à nos jours) ». Ce dossier souhaite approfondir la réflexion autour de la dimension connectée de l’histoire culturelle du Brésil contemporain à partir d’une perspective différente, à savoir la projection internationale des œuvres littéraires et intellectuelles brésiliennes, ces « lettres » que l’on qualifie volontiers de « Pátrias » au XIX^e siècle.

  On peut difficilement définir une dynamique commune aux frontières du continent américain puisque leur rôle change d’un pays à l’autre, voire d’une région à l’autre : les frontières sont marquées, au contraire, par une « immense variété » notamment en Amérique Latine où elles sont plus nombreuses...Ce colloque se propose de réfléchir à des différentes dynamiques qui animent les frontières américaines, ainsi que les mutations qu’elles ont connues dans la dernière décennie selon plusieurs axes.

  Circulations et décentralisation des arts et de la littérature

  IIe journée d'études du Plateau des Guyanes

  Loin des centres politiques, économiques, intellectuels européens et brésiliens, la région des Guyanes est un espace hétérogène composé de pays et de territoires rassemblant des caractéristiques uniques. L'université Fédérale d'Amapá (UNIFAP), et l’université de la Guyane française (UG), parce qu'elles sont présentes dans cette localité, sont capables de rassembler les recherches produites dans et sur la région. En ce sens, la II^e journée d’études du Plateau des Guyanes : Circulations et décentralisation des arts et de la littérature s'inscrit dans la perspective de la réflexion sur le « décentrement » de la connaissance. Cette posture implique de réfléchir au rôle des théories et des pratiques académiques dans un contexte situé hors du centre, sans pour autant nier la relation centre-périphérie.

  XXXIX congrès de la Société des hispanistes français

  Le XXXIX congrès de la Société des hispanistes français se tiendra à l'université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour du 6 au 8 juin 2019. Il aura pour thème Frontières dans le monde ibérique et ibéro-américain.  Il s’agira d’observer et d’analyser comment se manifestent les pratiques et les conceptions de la frontière dans les mondes ibériques et ibéro-américains. Quelles en sont les spécificités et les évolutions au cours des siècles et/ou au sein des territoires hispano/lusophones dans leur diversité ? Ces spécificités, si elles existent, conduisent-elles à renouveler les réflexions sur la notion de frontière ?

  African Ivories

  In the Atlantic World, 1400-1900

  Since April 2015, the international team working on the project “African Ivories in the Atlantic World: a reassessment of Luso-African ivories” (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia: PTDC/EPH-PAT/1810/2014), composed of 27 researchers from the University of Lisbon, the University of Évora and the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, has been researching the trade, circulation and production of raw and carved African ivory in the Atlantic area from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The team has identified and listed objects from Portuguese and Brazilian (Minas Gerais) collections, also collecting references and descriptions extant in written Portuguese sources. For the first time a selection of ivory pieces was subjected to lab tests with a view to helping establish their age and origin. The project research team has submitted proposals for re-interpreting material culture in the framework of its African contexts of production.

  Insularities and enclaves in colonial and post-colonial circumstances

  Crossings, conflicts and identitarian constructions (15th - 21st centuries)

  Historically, archipelagos were considered as rehearsal spaces for new social constructions. Since colonization and, afterwards, colonialism and imperialism, many of them evolved in association with the strengthening of international networks, while others did not escape isolation and forced unequal integration in different spaces. On the other hand, enclaves were the outcome of historical circumstances, often externally decided, which prompted some degree of insularity regarding the immediate geographical surroundings. When those territories did not become independent, there were demands for autonomy or, at least, some underlying emancipatory and anti-colonialist feelings. Even when these feelings did not mobilize relevant segments of the population, they disclose the alterity – above all cultural – in regard to sovereignty.

  Myth and Audiovisual Creation

  V International Conference on Mythcriticism

  Le V Congrès International de Mythocritique “Mythe et création audiovisuelle” est une initiative du Programme de Recherche Acis&Galatea, financé par la Communauté de Madrid et le Fonds Social Européen. Le Congrès s’organisera au tour de 4 sièges selon le thème: “Mythes germaniques” à l´université de Alcalá, “Mythes classiques” à l´université Autónoma, “Mythes bibliques” à l´université Francisco de Vitoria et “Mythes modernes” à l´université Complutense. Les chercheurs peuvent envoyer leur proposition de communication à un des 4 sièges. Leur objectif consistera à analyser le rôle du cinéma, les séries télévisées, les jeux vidéo dans la création et adaptation des mythes anciens, médiévaux et modernes et notre monde contemporain.

  What difference do DIY cultures make?

  KISMIF Conference 2018 will be preceded by a Summer School entitled ‘What difference do DIY cultures make?’ (KISMIF Summer School 2018) on 3 July 2018 in Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto. The summer school will offer an opportunity for all interested persons, including those participating in the conference, to attend workshops led by specialists in these fields. Specifically, the Summer School offers thematic workshops expressly focused on the hands-on, music making, and place making of contemporary DIY cultures. Its approach will be methodological and focused on research for action.

  “Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!” Gender, differences, identities and DIY cultures

  KISMIF conference 2018

  We are pleased to announce the fourth “Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!” (KISMIF) Conference which will take place in Porto, Portugal, between 3 July and 7 July 2018. This initiative follows the great success of the three past editions and brings together an international community of researchers focusing on underground music scenes and do-it-yourself culture. The 4^th edition of KISMIF will focus on “Gender, differences, identities and DIY cultures”, directing its attention on gender issues relating to underground scenes and do it yourself (DIY) cultures, and their manifestation at local, translocal and virtual levels.
