Values of Cultural Assets and Provenance
Dealing with and valuing cultural assets is a key challenge of our time, which concerns historical, legal, ethical, aesthetic and political aspects. The European Commission has declared 2018 to be the European Heritage Year. In the summer semester of 2018, the Ludwig Maximilians Universität München, in cooperation with the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Art, established a junior professorship for "Values of Cultural Assets and Provenance Research" at the Institute for Art History of the LMU Munich.

Music history is a matter of research, it is a matter of novels, films, comics or computer games. Also: Music history is subject matter to music theater. Performances of music history lie at the center of this conference: Be it André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry’s opera prologue “Les trois ages de l’opéra”, Hans Pfitzner’s opera “Palestrina” or Franz Wittenbrink’s revue “Die Comedian Harmonists”, Heinrich Berté’s Schubert-operetta “Das Dreimäderlhaus”, Randy Johnson’s musical “A night with Janis Joplin”, or Mauricio Kagel’s Liederoper “Aus Deutschland” – historical musicians, artistic agency and musical artifacts have been negotiated in music theater for centuries. Music theater deals with a broad spectrum of music history, spanning from the medieval troubadours to the present creations of Pop, Rock, Jazz and New Music.

Difference, diversity, diffraction: confronting hegemonies and dispossessions
10th European Feminist Research Conference
The overall theme of the conference is “Difference, Diversity, Diffraction: Confronting Hegemonies and Dispossessions”, which refers to a topic central to Gender Studies: the social construction of difference and inequality on the one hand, and the recognition of marginalised experiences and subject positions on the other. In the face of growing right-wing populist movements, anti-feminist and anti-queer backlash, forced migration, austerity and climate change, these concerns take on renewed relevance. The subtitle “Confronting Hegemonies and Dispossessions” is a call to reflect on, challenge and defy the hierarchies, subjugations and deprivations that are linked to structural differentiations and to find affirmative ways of dealing with difference , diversity and diffraction. The conference is committed to promoting a feminist anti-racist accessible space for all genders.

Financialization and development policies
Critical perspectives on new financial circuits for international development projects
In this conference we look at the ways in which private finance actors or practices are enrolled and associated to the conception and implementation of policies for international development. In parallel to the implementation of policies oriented towards “development goals”, the development landscape has seen over the last decades a transformation in partaking actors that now encompass charitable foundations, multi-national corporations, and financial intermediaries, in addition to multilateral or bilateral public development banks and aid agencies. “Financing development“, in other words finding additional monetary resources, has now become an issue at the top of the agenda of multilateral development actors. Increasingly, these strive to commit private actors and to “lever in“ private money.

Marx, Semiotics and Political Praxis
This special issue of Open Cultural Studies will return to the work of Karl Marx to reflect on and engage with his coherent articulation of words and their use, of words and actions, and of the intellectual and the political. The coherence of his discourse and praxis offers tools to think through, if not seek to transform, the alienated semiotic landscape of our times as described by the Frankfurt school philosopheers, Jean Baudrillard, Frederic Jameson, Sloterdijk and Slavoj Žižek. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Marx's birth, in this special issue we want to honour his 11th Thesis on Feuerbach: "philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point, however, is to change it."

Contemporary African and Black Diasporic Spaces in Europe
"Open Cultural Studies" journal
This special issue of Open Cultural Studies explores the social and cultural spaces in which identifications with African and black diaspora(s) become articulated, (re)negotiated and established as a field of collective agency with transformative power in European societies. It will argue that African diaspora communities and cultures in Europe are constructed not only by individuals’ engagements with Africa and its global diaspora, or mediatized and commercialized notions of Africanness/blackness, but also through collective agency aiming at promoting change in European societies shadowed by the normative whiteness, nationalist discourses and policies, human rights violations and overt racism.

Convocatoria de ponencias - Estudios urbanos
Geomedia is an emerging concept that has been deployed to capture a particular technological condition, associated with recent rapid developments in digital technology. As such, it signals to the dialectics of locative media and the mediations of localities. However, the concept of geomedia carries deeper/wider ontological and epistemological registers that transcend the simple twining of geography and media. In this wider sense, geomedia gestures to the expanding interdisciplinary terrain at the crossroads of media studies and geography, where various ontologies and epistemologies of space/time, flows/mobilities and mediation/ mediatization come together. The aim of this special issue is to explore the urban as a key terrain where these ontologies and epistemologies are articulated.
