Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies 2019
The 2019 session of the Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies will be devoted to the question what happens to concepts derived from cultural techniques – like writing, erasure, image, number, not to mention the concept of culture itself – when implemented by algorithmic routines that run on computers or mobile media and thus effectively become digitized cultural technologies.The 2019 Princeton-Weimar Summer School for Media Studies will attempt to map out approaches to media as networks of cultural technologies. We invite applications from outstanding doctoral students throughout the world in media studies and related fields such as film studies, literary studies, philosophy, art history, architecture, sociology, politics, the history of science and visual culture.

Summer Course for the Study of the Arts in Flanders The Age of Bruegel in Context
Summer Course for the Study of the Arts in Flanders
Annually, the Summer Course brings a select group of 18 national and international, highly qualified young researchers to Flanders. They are offered an intensive 11-day programme of lectures, discussions, and visits related to a specific art historical period of Flemish art. The Summer Course provides the participants with a clear insight into the Flemish art collections from the period at hand, as well as into the current state of research on the topic.The 5th edition of the Summer Course will focus on ‘The Age of Bruegel in Context’. It will be held from June 23 until July 3, 2019. Excursions will be made to Antwerp, Bruges, Genk, Leuven, Mechelen and Brussels. We are also planning a trip to Paris. The language of the Summer Course is English.

In 2019, CRESSON, research team of “Ambiances, Architectures, Urbanities” laboratory, will celebrate its forty years of existence. Les universités de Bordeaux, Pau et Toulouse, avec la collaboration de la Casa de Velázquez, organisent un séminaire de formation avancé qui propose un examen croisé et pluridisciplinaire des cultures politiques dans la péninsule Ibérique et au Maghreb au Moyen Âge. La session 2018 de l’atelier propose d’étudier la culture et l’expérience politiques au prisme de l’écrit, des écritures du pouvoir. Les renouvellements historiographiques récents permettront d’interroger l’acte d’écrire en le replaçant dans un contexte spécifique, de soupeser le gouvernement et l’administration par l’écrit, le poids de l’écrit dans la culture politique. Les écritures du pouvoir seront envisagées dans toute leur diversité.

Ce séminaire s’adresse à des étudiants avancés et à de jeunes professionnels de nationalité étrangère. Il fournit un complément de formation à un cursus d’histoire de l’art, de muséologie ou de médiation. Pour sa quinzième édition, il s’intéresse à la question de l’accessibilité dans les musées. Il montrera comment les outils et les activités développés par les musées en faveur des publics en situation de handicap, des visiteurs du champ social et des publics éloignés des musées, bénéficient aussi plus largement au grand public.

Cette école d’été explorera le terrain pratiquement vierge et pourtant essentiel des métamorphoses des pratiques artistiques et des modalités de l’expérience esthétique au fil des âges. Il s’agira de considérer chacun des trois grands moments qui rythment l’existence – l’enfance et l'adolescence ; l’âge adulte ; la vieillesse – de telle sorte que le premier et le troisième n’apparaissent plus comme une préparation ou une perte progressive du rapport à l’art qui serait celui de l’âge adulte, mais comme des périodes de présence à l’art, spécifiques et précieuses en elles-mêmes.

L'école thématique « CULT–Cultures visuelles : images, histoire, techniques », qui se tiendra du 26 au 29 juin 2018, s'organise entre de grandes conférences (ou keynotes) et d'ateliers où les participants envisagent leur recherche dans une perspective visuelle (graphisme, photographie, documentaire, bande-dessinée), sous la conduite de praticiens issus du monde académique et professionnel. L'objectif de cette école est de mener une réflexion collective sur la « culture visuelle » et d'enrichir nos sciences sociales et historiques par des savoir-faire portant sur les images, comme instruments de recherche, mais aussi sur les nouvelles formes de récit, de narration et de support, rendues possibles notamment par le numérique.

An Environmental History of the Great War
We intend to bring together an international group of 20 to 30 graduate students working on military, cultural, social, and environmental history of the First World War from 2nd to 7th July 2018. Over the course of the week, they will have opportunity to get to know each other, but also a wide range of internationally recognized academic experts. Guided tours on excursions to French and Belgian sites are an integral part of the program and will enrich the participants' experience.

L’université d'été de la Bibliothèque Kandinsky est un programme du Centre Pompidou qui se déroule dans l’espace des collections contemporaines du Musée national d’art moderne. Elle a pour objet les sources de l’art moderne et contemporain : archives, documentation écrite, photographique ou filmique, témoignages, formes d’appropriation artistique de la production documentaire. Initiative interdisciplinaire, l’université d'été de la Bibliothèque Kandinsky réunit de jeunes chercheur·e·s : historiens et historiens de l’art, anthropologues et sociologues, artistes, critiques, commissaires d’expositions, qui partagent un travail collectif sur les sources documentaires.

KISMIF Conference 2018 will be preceded by a Summer School entitled ‘What difference do DIY cultures make?’ (KISMIF Summer School 2018) on 3 July 2018 in Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto. The summer school will offer an opportunity for all interested persons, including those participating in the conference, to attend workshops led by specialists in these fields. Specifically, the Summer School offers thematic workshops expressly focused on the hands-on, music making, and place making of contemporary DIY cultures. Its approach will be methodological and focused on research for action.
