This edition is stamped by the 40 years anniversary of Cresson research team
The objective of this winter school is to propose, over a week, a program both theoretical & practical on listening, research and design of the sound environment. In 2019, CRESSON, research team of “Ambiances, Architectures, Urbanities” laboratory, will celebrate its forty years of existence. This is the opportunity, to return to the elements that founded this team and which, today, continue to feed researches on sound ambiances.

Food and territorial politics. Policies for food and territories
Food is, with a few exceptions, a relatively understudied object through the lens of local policymaking and urban planning. On the one hand, the sociology of food focuses on the relations that individuals and social groups develop to food deeds, as well as the social relations that food deeds generate between them. On the other hand, studies of food policies in political sociology primarily deal with the agrofood industry and the social movements around alternative modes of production. By contrast, few studies take as a research object food through the lens of agenda-setting in local public policy and its potential effects on territories.

Architecture and risk - from contraints to opportunity
À travers des échanges autour de la fabrique des territoires, cette journée d'étude a un double objectif : en premier questionner les potentialités de l’architecture à renseigner et à absorber les situations à risques et par la suite, interroger les pratiques architecturales mises sous tension par la présence des risques. L’enjeu sera de permettre à la pratique architecturale de se positionner par rapport à cette thématique universelle des risques et à questionner par le biais d’une démarche réflexive la formation des futures architectes. Et ainsi sortir d’une approche techno-centrée des risques pour inclure ses autres dimensions socio-spatiales.

À l’occasion de son numéro #12, la revue Urbanités souhaite explorer « la ville (s)low tech » et lance à cet effet un appel à propositions d'articles. Cette ville (s)low tech se situe à la croisée de deux chemins scientifiques convergents, celui des questions sur les rythmes de la ville et celui sur la place de la technologie dans la façon de gérer les villes et de les habiter.

Young researchers' workshop
Les doctorant.e.s du laboratoire Pacte (Université Grenoble Alpes) et du laboratoire Citeres (Université de Tours) s’associent pour organiser à Grenoble une journée d’étude à destination des jeunes chercheurs et chercheuses. Intitulée « Les capacités transformatives des réseaux dans la fabrique des territoires », celle-ci s’articulera autour de deux axes : « Rôle des interactions sociales dans la production d’une transformation territoriale » et « Influence des réseaux techniques et infrastructurels dans la transition territoriale ».

La « transition » existe-t-elle lorsqu’on vit, séjourne ou travaille de part et d’autre d’une frontière ? Les usages de ce terme ne sont-ils que rhétoriques, se résumant à une formule oratoire ayant l’art d’agir sur les représentations ? Qu’est-ce que cela signifie pour les territoires concernés et pour ceux qui les traversent ? Que dit-on de la « transition » dans ces milieux parcourus par les mobilités transfrontalières ? Quels sont les différents enjeux, les politiques et les contradictions qui traversent ces déplacements aux interstices ? Quel(s) défi(s) posent ces formes d’habiter multiples et mobiles ? Comment ces pratiques et les réseaux translocaux qui les portent mettent-ils à l’épreuve les démarches de « transition » ? Accélérateurs, inhibiteurs, quel(s) rôle(s) sont portés par les projets transfrontaliers ? En quoi peuvent-ils catalyser un devenir commun des territoires de proximité ?

Paris city shut to traffic the riverside road in 2016. This closure has stirred up the media but also professional and academic circles. Some people see it as the end of the car in the city. For others, the car is back in town, but under different configurations. Almost sixty years after the publication of The Death and Life of Great American Cities (Jacobs, 1961), which challenged the role of car-oriented planning, this Flux special issue focuses on car mobilities in metropolitan areas.

Towards spatial and social reconfigurations of cities in the Americas
The workshop intends to answer these following questions: How do cultural practices produce new uses of public urban space? Do they succeed in reinventing the idea of the common or on the contrary do they produce new forms of stigmatization? The organizers of the workshop also wish to raise a comparative debate on social sciences studies done in Latin America and in North America on the topic of culture and cities.

Religious urbanisation and development in Africa
The volume will critically explore how processes related to religious urbanization intersect with different notions of development in African contexts. Cities are taken to be powerful venues for the creation and implementation of models of development whose moral, temporal, and political assumptions need to be examined, not least as they intersect with religious templates for the planning and reform of urban space.

Rethinking the History of the Rust Belt since 1945
This region, stretching from western New York to eastern Iowa, was until the middle of the 20th century the country's manufacturing and industrial heartland. From the Great Migrations that radically transformed its demographics to the weakening of its economic model, as well as the massive struggles waged by local workers and protagonists of the Civil Rights movement, the political and social history of the Rust Bel. By bringing into dialogue the ongoing or recently completed research of doctoral students and junior academics with a view to opening up new perspectives on the history of the Rust Belt, from a range of disciplines (history, sociology, political science, geography), we intend to highlight spaces and actors too often relegated to the margins of this region’s history, despite their having decisively contributed to shaping the contemporary Rust Belt

Ce projet de colloque, organisé à l'université de Paris-Est Créteil les 20-21 juin 2019, prévoit d'interroger l'objet géographique « Rust Belt » (ceinture de la rouille) sous différents éclairages thématiques, méthodologiques et disciplinaires. Il a pour ambition d’entreprendre un état des lieux de la Rust Belt, dans un contexte fortement marqué par les échéances électorales, entre les élections de mi-mandat de novembre 2018 et les différentes élections, notamment présidentielle, de 2020.

Cinquante ans après la publication de l’ouvrage Le droit à la ville, d'Henri Lefebvre, la troisième biennale de la sociologie de l'urbain et des territoires propose d’interroger les interactions entre les dynamiques du capitalisme et les dynamiques urbaines, et plus largement les logiques économiques et marchandes de la production et de la transformation des territoires, ainsi que leur articulation avec les politiques et les mouvements sociaux.

Grasping commitment in its plurality - the contribution of localised analysis
Pourquoi et comment au juste s’engage-t-on ? Par quels processus les individus se saisissent-ils de telle ou telle cause ? Quelles sont les incidences de l’engagement ? Les pouvoirs publics peuvent-ils s’engager ? Quelles sont les différences entre engagement institutionnel et militantisme ? De quoi le désengagement est-il le signe ? Bref, de quoi parle-t-on concrètement lorsque l’on évoque l’engagement ? De manière transversale, cette journée d’étude se veut être un espace de réflexion sur les méthodes d’enquête permettant d’appréhender les formes plurielles de l’engagement. En sciences sociales, la multiplication des travaux ethnographiques a eu pour corolaire l’engagement de l’ethnographe sur son terrain, cette dimension pourra être intégrée aux différentes propositions de communication.

Investigating mobilities throughout life -issues and methods
L’atelier « Trajectoires et mobilités », actuellement composé de doctorant·es et post-doctorant·es du Lab’Urba, du laboratoire « Ville mobilité transport » et du laboratoire « Analyse comparée des pouvoirs », a pour objectif de réunir des chercheur·es, aux objets d’études différents, qui font toutes et tous usage de données biographiques dans leurs recherches. Pour cette première journée d’étude, ce sont les questionnements autour des cadres interprétatifs et des méthodes de recueil de ces données qui seront au coeur des interventions et des échanges. Ils seront illustrés par des cas d’étude multiples et variés : les mobilités quotidiennes de travailleurs avec de faibles revenus, l’engagement parental autour de l’école, les trajectoires résidentielles des habitant·es de bidonville, les trajectoires de demandeuses et demandeurs d’asile et réfugié·es LGBT (Lesbiennes, Gays, Bisexuel·les, Transgenres) ou encore les variations de l’exposition au risque cancérogène.

Since two or three decades heritagization phenomenon concerns more and more different objects and scales. Within this frame, is to inhabit the city becoming an object of heritage itself? This conference will focus on processes that transform the ordinary and daily practices – and the spaces in which they take place – in a unique and representative experience, capable to identify, qualify and/or protect spaces of patrimonial value (labeled, ordinary, common heritage, etc.).

Le réseau scientifique thématique Japarchi s’est concentré sur la définition d’un ensemble de notions et de dispositifs fondamentaux de la culture spatiale du Japon ; ce travail fut matérialisé par la publication en 2014 du Vocabulaire de la spatialité japonaise. Le séminaire annuel Japarchi, qui va reprendre à l’automne 2018, souhaite s’inscrire dans la continuité de cette « encyclopédie ouverte » avec des interventions prenant appui et se concentrant sur un terme, une expression, un toponyme. Ces entrées thématiques concernent des dispositifs ou des agencements matériels, construits ou se déployant dans le territoire ; des notions ou des concepts relevant de l’architecture, de l’urbanisme ou du paysage ; des acteurs ou actrices qui agissent dans ou avec l’espace.

Crossing Critical Boundaries
Race in the Marketplace (RIM) is an international multidisciplinary research network dedicated to innovatively advancing knowledge and critically understanding the role of race and how it intersects with class, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and disability in global marketplaces. Building on our successful inaugural RIM Research Forum held in Washington D.C in spring 2017, we have decided to broaden the movement across the Atlantic and hold the second biannual RIM Research Forum in Paris (France) from June 25 to June 27, 2019. The broad objective of this second Forum is to continue the dialogue across domains, disciplines and geographical boundaries to contribute to an integrated understanding of race in markets.
