  Do elected representatives (really) like democracy ?

  Political staff facing citizen participation

  What is the relationship of elected officials with democracy and citizen participation? How do they perceive their roles as representatives, their status and their political room for maneuver? How do they understand the democratic role of citizens and their skills? How do these issues determine different profiles of elected officials and different political trajectories? What are the relationships of elected representatives and partisan organizations with democratic institutional reforms. How do they deal with the issue of democratizing democracy? These questions will be at the heart of this conference. Based on empirical work, original or reviewed, this symposium aims to show how elected representatives imagine what "good participation" should be, how they relate to the so-called "democratization" or "deprofessionalization" of political life, how they conceive the social demand for participation, how they construct policies of participation on this basis (often referred to as "supply policies") and potentially draw lessons about their own democratic experiences and their roles as representatives. At the crossroads of the sociology of public action, political roles and political behaviors, this conference aims to sum up the current state of research about political staff facing citizen participation.

  Transitional justice and democratic transition in the Arab countries: politics, history and memory

  Ce congrès a pour but d’établir les fondements politiques et juridiques du système de la justice transitionnelle, et d’étudier les cas qui ont été appliqués en dehors du monde arabe quant à leurs exigences, leurs mécanismes et leurs résultats, et quels sont les leçons que nous pouvons en tirer. Aussi, procèderions-nous à l’étude des expériences et des différentes tentatives arabes à ce sujet, afin de savoir si le système de justice transitionnelle pourrait ou non constituer une partie des entrées pour résoudre les conflits ou remédier aux cas de transition démocratique en difficulté dans plusieurs pays arabes. Le congrès donne un intérêt particulier à l’expérience tunisienne vu son importance et sa spécificité en tirant profit notamment de la participation à ses travaux d’un grand nombre de chercheurs tunisiens.

  Writing the history of the maquis and other clandestine struggles in Cameroon - beyond the fragments of memory

  Au-delà de la mémoire éclatée

  Au Cameroun, dans le processus de décolonisation, de nombreux Camerounais passent de la dissidence à la lutte clandestine. Pour structurer leur capacité à dire non à la colonisation française, ils prennent le chemin du maquis. Ruben Um Nyobe, Secrétaire Général de l’UPC, mouvement interdit en juillet 1955 et dans la clandestinité, considère que : « Traqués par les colonialistes, [les militants de l’UPC] ont été contraints de se retirer de la vie publique ». De même, pour lui, être dans le maquis est tout simplement la continuation du travail de militant dans l’ombre. Cette perception du processus de libération entre en contradiction avec l’interprétation que fait une partie importante des acteurs de la décolonisation du Cameroun.
