  Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History 2018

  The "Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History" (Florence, Italy), in collaboration with the Department of University and Research of the Municipality of Florence  offers no. 2 awards for the publication of unpublished and peer-reviewed monographs, in Italian, Enghish and the other principal European languages, presented by young researchers and concerning the religious history from Middle Ages to the Contemporary Era. The essays will appear in a dedicated book series of the Firenze University Press. Are welcomed the applications by all Ph.D. scholars who have obtained their doctorate no later than five years at the date of the publication of this call for publications.

  Women in lyrical songs of the crusades in vernacular

  Voices, motifs, representations and issues

  Les chansons lyriques de croisade constituent un corpus littéraire encore relativement peu étudié. La place des femmes est pourtant importante dans ces textes dont elles sont, avec la Terre sainte, un enjeu considérable : ce sont elles que l’on quitte, dans l’espoir, parfois ténu, d’un amour plus grand ; c’est vers elles que l’on part ou que l’on revient ; c’est leur souvenir qui accompagne le croisé. Source par elle-même d’importants bouleversements, l’entreprise de la croisade vient aussi réinterroger la place des femmes dans la société : leur fonction de régente sur les territoires du croisé, leur participation aux expéditions et à l’œuvre de salut chrétien, et leur éventuel affranchissement de la puissance masculine.

  Gender in the Middle Ages

  Phenomena, practices and constructions in cultural history

  Ce séminaire interdisciplinaire se propose de rassembler des jeunes chercheur·e·s et des chercheur·e.·s confirmé·e·s en histoire médiévale qui font du genre leur objet d’étude, ou qui l’utilisent comme un outil dans leurs recherches. Le but du séminaire est de se focaliser sur la réflexion identitaire et genrée au Moyen Âge. C’est pourquoi les approches d’histoire intellectuelle et culturelle ont été privilégiées. Néanmoins, les autres disciplines et les objets d’études mis en discussions seront également mobilisés.

  Mendicants on the Margins

  The symposium aims to bring together researchers working on aspects of mendicant orders traditionally considered as “marginal”, be it in geographical, topographical, gendered or historical terms, in order to go beyond the artificial construct of centrality and marginality, and get a fuller understanding of the impact of the mendicants on all levels of medieval society across Europe.
