Kites in Japan - at the intersection of the arts
À la croisée des arts
Dans le cadre du programme « Japonisme 2018 » célébrant le 160e anniversaire des relations diplomatiques entre la France et le Japon, mais aussi à l’occasion du 60e anniversaire du Pacte d’amitié et de coopération entre les villes de Paris et de Kyoto, en partenariat avec l’International Research Center for Japanese Studies de Kyoto, et avec le soutien de Sciencescope – Association des étudiants et chercheurs francophones au Japon, le Centre de Recherche sur l’Extrême-Orient de Paris-Sorbonne (CREOPS) organise les 20 et 21 décembre 2018 un colloque de deux jours consacrés aux cerfs-volants japonais.

Le principal objectif des Journées jeunes chercheurs en études taïwanaises est demettre l’accent sur les recherches réalisées par les jeunes chercheurs venant d’universités et centres de recherche dumonde francophone. Ces Journées se situent dans le cadre à la fois de leur formation sur les spécificités du terrain taïwanais et d’échanges avec des chercheurs et enseignants familiers de la réalité empirique de Taïwan et qui ont ici le statut d’encadrants.

The internationalisation of French and Japanese gastronomy
Dans le cadre de Japonismes 2018, le laboratoire Espaces, nature, culture (ENeC) organise une journée d'étude sur le thème de l'internationalisation des gastronomies / cuisines françaises et japonaises, dans une perspective comparative. Sont attendues notamment des communications sur les métissages des deux cuisines, soit ensemble en France ou au Japon, soit avec d'autres cuisines dans des pays tiers. On pourra également s'interroger sur les aspects commerciaux et logistiques de l'internationalisation des cuisines japonaise et/ou française.

Call for papers - Political studies
What are the normative assumptions and solutions proposed to develop morally right or wrong compromise typologies? Can we develop a universal ethics of compromise or does compromise vary depending on the socio-cultural history of a country? To what extent is culture relevant in shaping types and norms of compromise? The conference aims, firstly, to understand how to distinguish a compromise from a compromise of principles; what constitutes an ethical or fair compromise? Second, it will analyze if practices of compromise vary from one country to another. To do so, different types of compromise will be explored through geopolitical, philosophical, historical approaches, with a particular focus on Japan and Taiwan. This symposium will examine theoretical issues and practices associated with compromise, by adopting a global perspective. It will bring together contributions from European, American and Asian researchers.

21st edition of the International Association Youth Indian Studies (AJEI) Workshop
The AJEI (Association Youth South Asia Studies) is pleased to open the call for the organization of the 21st edition of the International AJEI Workshop. The Workshop has to be held in South Asia, with a local institution (university or research center) and must be organized by a team of PhD students and/or Post doctoral candidates. The workshop will take place during the spring 2019.

Sinophone musical worlds and their publics
China Perspectives / Perspectives Chinoises
Recent success of Chinese reality television singing competitions broadcasted on national television or streamed directly on the internet, has shown the extent of musical genres represented in the Chinese world, from pop to folk via hip-hop or rock ’n’ roll. The popularity of new musical styles up to then considered as deviant as well as the recent attempts of the State to intervene directly on musical contents, tend to blur the distinctions between “mainstream” (流行) music, “popular” (民间) music as non-official, “underground” (地下) music or even “alternative” (另类) music. This call for papers aims at promoting a better understanding of the transformations of Chinese “musical worlds”, in the sense that Becker gave to “art worlds”, which stresses the role of cooperation and interactions between the different actors of the artistic sphere.

Feeding death - funerary rituals and alimentary practices in the Alpes and Himalayas
Les pratiques et les gestes funéraires constituent une prérogative uniquement humaine depuis au moins 100.000, datation attribuée par les archéologues aux sépultures de Skhül (Mugharet es-Skhül), en Moyen Orient, les plus anciens exemples de sépulture volontaire de l’espèce des Homo Sapiens. Les récentes découvertes archéologiques des équipes dirigées par Aldenderfer et Eng (2016) dans le Upper Mustang (Népal) ont mis en évidence des aperçus inédits de l’histoire des populations himalayennes de haute altitude et de leurs rituels de la mort. Ce colloque permettra aussi d’aborder des aspects secondaires inhérents les rituels funéraires tels que certaines pratiques alimentaires spécifiques, appelées à jouer un rôle précis sur le plan social et symbolique.

Ce numéro thématique de la Revista Internacional de Organizaciones veut consacrer son attention à analyser comment les fonctions des institutions religieuses reconstruites en immigration sont maintenues et/ou transformées, et comment elles agissent en tant que composantes actives dans le maintien et le développement des identités collectives dans des contextes sociaux et culturels différents de ceux d'origine. Nous nous intéressons à comprendre comment ces institutions continuent d'organiser le fait religieux, non seulement le culte, mais aussi la défense des références doctrinales, la reproduction des modèles d'autorité, ainsi que les relations avec la sphère politique, dans ce milieu migratoire.

Le réseau scientifique thématique Japarchi s’est concentré sur la définition d’un ensemble de notions et de dispositifs fondamentaux de la culture spatiale du Japon ; ce travail fut matérialisé par la publication en 2014 du Vocabulaire de la spatialité japonaise. Le séminaire annuel Japarchi, qui va reprendre à l’automne 2018, souhaite s’inscrire dans la continuité de cette « encyclopédie ouverte » avec des interventions prenant appui et se concentrant sur un terme, une expression, un toponyme. Ces entrées thématiques concernent des dispositifs ou des agencements matériels, construits ou se déployant dans le territoire ; des notions ou des concepts relevant de l’architecture, de l’urbanisme ou du paysage ; des acteurs ou actrices qui agissent dans ou avec l’espace.

Migrants in the globalizing city
Spaces, places and mobilities in Asia, Europe and the Middle East
While migrant presence and integration have shaped public debate and scientific enquiry for some time now, it has often been examined through eurocentric notions such as assimilation, multiculturalism and, more recently, cosmopolitanism. Yet, it is clear that not only Europe (or the Western World) has to deal with migration related issues, countries in Asia and the Middle East are also experiencing high inflows of variously skilled migrants, while the robustness of their borders are frequently tested by undocumented migrants and refugees.This conference proposes to give focus to globalising cities from Asia, Europe and the Middle East which are marked by the diversity of their population and distinct ways of managing migrant diversity.

Appropriating, exhibiting, and reconstituting objects and human remains from colonial conquests (late 19th century-present day)
Most major ethnographic museums in Europe hold objects that can be traced back to the wars of conquest and “pacification” of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, during what was one of the most violent phases of European colonial expansion. The appropriation of ethnographic artifacts and human remains for the purpose of collection or desecration was a feature of colonial expansion. It has become the focus of a growing field of research. Collecting and accumulating objects took various shapes. Some were looted as war trophies in the violence of combat; others were negotiated in complicated and often uneven hierarchical fashion. This one-day conference will underline the diversity of these processes.

Contemporary Amman and the Right to the City
A city of four million inhabitants today, Amman’s expansion has become disproportionate to its urban history. Amman has experienced an impressive urban growth over the past fifty years, driven by forced migration and market laws. Developing from a small rural settlement at the end of the 19th century, Amman evolved into a regional crossroad at the end of the 20th century, and has become today a symbol for the consolidation of Hashemite rule, and as a result, the site of its contestation. Amman’s exceptional position among other regional capitals and its recent urban history has forced its inhabitants to create narratives concerning the city’s foundation, invent urban traditions, and negotiate ways of socialization.

Ce film ethnographique est le portrait d’un moine taoïste, de la région de Ziyang au Shaanxi, en Chine centrale. Celui-ci, entré en religion « dans la Chine d’autrefois », est forcé de retourner à la vie laïque lors de la Révolution culturelle (1966-1976) et de travailler dans les champs pendant quinze ans. Au début des années 1980, il peut reprendre sa vie de moine. Reconnu comme un maître éminent jusqu’à Pékin, il préfère refuser les propositions de postes prestigieux pour se consacrer à la reconstruction de temples détruits pendant la longue période de prohibition religieuse.

Techno-realities and affective creations - love simulation games
Les jeux de simulation amoureuse
The techno-realities are seen as a threat to human relationships in “real” life, in particular when they relate to love. Such human-shaped products however multiply: domotic spouse, tactile screen’s boyfriend, holographic companion, bride for Virtual Reality glasses, interactive downloadable partner, otome games and bishôjo games characters... The purpose of this symposium is to analyze Love Simulation Devices as signals allowing users to express a variety of messages, even contradictory ones, yet to be deciphered within their specific contexts. Working on the Japanese products will provide a revealing insight of processes that still have not been analyzed and may serve as an eye-opener in the field of comparative studies in the western cultures.

Chinese objects and their lives
Over the last twenty years, material culture studies have occupied a growing place in the social sciences. How does this growing interest in objects and material culture reveal itself in Chinese studies? Choosing from different disciplines and different periods, this AFEC workshop aims to examine how to approach objects in the humanities and social sciences—from everyday objects to natural objects, consumer goods, technical or scientific instruments, objects of study or devotion, or ritual objects and works of art. By bringing together specialists from different fields (history, art history, archaeology, technology, anthropology, literature, sociology, etc.), the workshop explores the life, trajectory and the possible metamorphoses of the value, status and function of objects, as well as the relationships these artefacts have with individuals—raising in addition questions of their social uses—by focusing on their religious, symbolic, political, economic, emotional or memorial dimensions.

Methodological plurality in the social sciences of Southern Asia
Cette Journée est consacrée à la réflexivité des méthodes employées dans l’étude des sociétés sud-asiatiques. Nous appelons les jeunes chercheurs en sciences sociales engagés dans des terrains en Asie du Sud à questionner la pertinence des méthodologies employées dans leurs recherches. Les interventions auront pour objet d’interroger avant tout la spécificité des méthodes mobilisées par rapport à leur appartenance disciplinaire, de tester l’intérêt des approches mixtes et d’examiner les apports et les limites de méthodes innovantes, comme celles apportées par le « Big Data ».

L’Institut national des langues et des civilisations orientales (Inalco) propose une table ronde pluridisciplinaire où des langues d’ici et d'ailleurs, vivantes, naissantes, disparues ou disparaissant, standardisées ou encore non-stabilisées nous ouvrent de nouveaux horizons. La relation genre-sexe, la façon dont les langues du monde expriment le genre grammatical, ainsi que dynamiques de pouvoir entre interlocuteurs seront autant de thématiques abordées par nos intervenants.
