  Maritime Knowledge for Asian Seas

  An interdisciplinary dialogue between maritime historians and archaeologists

  This conference will close a four-years French-Taiwanese research project (ANR/MOST) on Maritime Knowledge for Asian seas (seaFaring), which propose to reconsider, and possibly to review, our knowledge on China’s seafaring tradition through a new approach focusing on the practical know-how available to the craftsmen, seamen and merchants during the 16^th-18^th centuries, with special emphasis on sailing and trading knowledge and practices.

  Stone-to-Stone II

  The economy of stone in the Meuse valley and surrounding regions (1st century BC - 18th century)

  The first edition of conferences dedicated to stone economics during the historical periods, which was held in Nancy in 2015, underlined the vitality of the research carried out about this subject, as illustrated by the recent works led in Lorraine. The Stone by Stone series of meetings aim to promote the relevance of stone economics research and to facilitate discussions about the topic, through a cycle of international conferences held every three years. The upcoming Stone by Stone II Symposium will be held in Namur and Dinant in December 2018. It will be co-organized by the University of Namur (AcanthuM – ILEE), by the University of Louvain-la-Neuve (UCL), by the University of Brussels (ULB/VUB), by the University of Lorraine, by the INRAP and by the Maison du Patrimoine medieval mosan, and by the AWAP (Agence wallonne du Patrimoine).

  Creating clothing - the artisans, techniques and economy of clothing in the modern age

  La journée d'étude « La fabrique de l’habit » propose de réfléchir à la production de vêtements et d’accessoires de mode à l'époque moderne, avant que le déclin puis la fin des communautés de métiers, l’apparition des grands magasins et l'essor de la confection ne marquent l'avènement d’un système productif nouveau au XIX^e siècle. L’objectif de cette journée est de réunir autour de cette thématique jeunes chercheurs et chercheurs confirmés, archéologues, conservateurs, restaurateurs et praticiens du textile afin de dresser un état des lieux des apports de l’historiographie récente et des recherches menées actuellement au sein des universités, des musées et des laboratoires.

  Stone by stone II

  Stone economics in the Meuse valley and in its adjacent regions (Ist Century B. C. - XVIIIth Century)

  Le colloque « Pierre à pierre II » a pour objectif de centrer les réflexions sur la vallée mosane, célèbre pour ses ressources lithiques, et dont les tronçons de la Meuse moyenne comme de la basse Meuse constituent depuis l’Antiquité l’une des artères économiques majeures dans cette région d’Europe. Dans le prolongement des débats du premier cycle de conférences qui s'est tenu à Nancy en 2015, le colloque « Pierre à pierre II » souhaite privilégier trois grands axes thématiques : la géographie de la pierre (axe 1), la pierre sur le chantier de construction (axe 2) et, enfin, la pierre en tant que mobilier ou élément décoratif (axe 3).
