    Pioneering women and men in European adult education (XIXth and early XXth centuries)

    European Seminar of the network History of adult education and training in Europe (ESREA)

    The aims of this European seminar are: To explore biographical trajectories of theorists, initiators, and activists of various forms of adult education, and to analyze what led them to become "pioneers" in adult education; To identify new figures, more particularly women pioneers, who, up to now, have not been recognized to the same extent as men; To provide the basis for a European biographical dictionary, listing or documenting not only biographical notes, but also reflecting on different issues by the papers.

    Gallant culture and Sigisbeism in Europe during the long 18th century

    Le XVIIIe siècle italien a vu s’épanouir le « cicisbeo », un chevalier servant qui avait le devoir d’accompagner une dame avec le consentement de son époux. Cette pratique pose la question des expressions et des enjeux de la culture galante en tension entre l’idéal de l’honnête homme et l’ironie des libertins. L’étude de sources variées permet de les étudier à différentes échelles, de la culture matérielle du sigisbée à la fabrique d’un imaginaire au cœur des interrogations politiques et morales dans les sociétés post-révolutionnaires.

    Ce séminaire doctoral entend réunir des étudiants, chercheurs et enseignants spécialistes du Moyen Âge et de la Première modernité afin de mettre en perspective les défis méthodologiques des tournants spatial et liturgique dans l’étude des phénomènes sociaux et culturels liés à la vie religieuse féminine. La reconstruction de la planimétrie sera combinée avec celle des pratiques rituelles, symboliques, dévotionnelles et performatives.
