  From militantism to the fight for visibility

  Le colloque international entend dresser un panorama de cent ans de luttes par la photographie et le texte, depuis le photomontage militant jusqu’aux stratégies de visibilité sur les réseaux sociaux. Il s'inscrit dans le champ pluridisciplinaire des visual studies, à la croisée de l'histoire de l'art, la littérature et l'analyse du discours. À l'heure des commémorations de « mai 68 », il entend interroger la médiation des luttes au-delà de l'évenement et sur le long cours, depuis les luttes de classe et ouvrières au début du XX^e siècle jusqu'aux stratégies de médiatisation et de visibilité pour l'égalité des droits.

  Dialectics of Dread and Refuge

  In A Grammar of the Multitude, Paolo Virno discriminates between the Kantian view of the dialectic of dread and refuge, which is based on a distinction between particular danger and absolute danger (also articulated by Heidegger through the distinction between fear and anguish) and the collapse of this distinction in the post-Fordist world, in which "the dividing line between fear and anguish, between relative dread and absolute dread, is precisely what has failed." (Virno 2004, 32) If post-Fordist institutions rely on a culture of pervasive dread – manifest as fear and anxiety – how do we resist this nearly intangible culture today? Arguably, we are moving beyond the sort of entrenched paralysis Virno speaks of, towards a new sort of political breakthrough, a manner of imagining life not determined by institutional cultures of fear and anxiety. Yet much thinking needs still to be done around the ways in which we engage in concerted resistance: do we fight within institutional walls – and if so, how do we resist systems of perpetual visibilisation – the gaze of securitization that renders us so exposed? What does this fight look like? Do we exit – and if so, where to? Is there a new underground?

  Doct'Isor doctoral seminar

  Depuis 2014, le séminaire Doct’Isor se réunit pour encourager les échanges entre jeunes chercheurs travaillant sur des sources audiovisuelles. La double-thématique « Représentations / Luttes » retenue cette année permettra de croiser plusieurs médias (cinéma, photographie, presse) ainsi que différents types de productions artistiques (œuvres d’art, photomontage, gravures) et de comprendre les « luttes » comme un phénomène à plusieurs dimensions : de l’intime au collectif, du local au transnational, de la lutte en cours à celle(s) que l’on se remémore.

  Literature, arts and societies in the British Isles, 19th, 20th, 21st centuries

  Ce colloque prolonge les travaux de deux séminaires communs aux laboratoires « Cultures anglo-saxonnes » (CAS, université Toulouse 2 Jean Jaurès) et Études montpelliéraines du monde anglophone (EMMA, université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3), portant respectivement sur la littérature et les arts, et sur la civilisation britannique. Son objectif sera de balayer le champ thématique ouvert par l’articulation des notions de singularité et de solidarité, de mobiliser les outils critique et théoriques nécessaires pour l’explorer, et d’affiner notre compréhension de la littérature, des arts et des sociétés des îles britanniques aux XIX-XX-XXI^e siècles.
