  Le colloque organisée par l'Institut d'Histoire Contemporaine de NOVA FCSH cherchera à répondre à des questions telles que: quelles idées communes, quels buts et quelles attitudes exprimés par la presse satirique ont façonné le concept de nation? Qui étaient les "autres" représentés par l’image satirique par opposition à "nous"? Comment les visions et les représentations de «l'autre» par opposition au «soi» exprimées par l'image satirique ont-elles aidé à définir les identités nationales, à construire la notion de communauté et à façonner les stéréotypes nationaux ?

  Gallant culture and Sigisbeism in Europe during the long 18th century

  Le XVIII^e siècle italien a vu s’épanouir le « cicisbeo », un chevalier servant qui avait le devoir d’accompagner une dame avec le consentement de son époux. Cette pratique pose la question des expressions et des enjeux de la culture galante en tension entre l’idéal de l’honnête homme et l’ironie des libertins. L’étude de sources variées permet de les étudier à différentes échelles, de la culture matérielle du sigisbée à la fabrique d’un imaginaire au cœur des interrogations politiques et morales dans les sociétés post-révolutionnaires.

  Court identities and the myth of Versailles in Europe

  Perception, adherence and rejection (18th-19th centuries)

  The “modern” courts in Europe included the institutional, social, societal and cultural aspects concomitant with the political affirmation of personalities emerging, by agreement or through conflict, from communities exercising power together in order to seize authority for their own personal benefit and to develop a range of encomiastic processes for their own person. In the 15^th, 16^th and 17^th centuries, the princely courts in Europe did not confine themselves to one single paradigm. There were as many courts as there were princely houses, as many “national” types, even if some, like the Burgundian court in the 15^th century and the courts in northern and central Italy in the 15^th and 16^th centuries, proposed models and exercised influence from one end of Europe to the other, while accommodating indigenous influences.
