  Call for papers - History

  Rethinking the History of the Rust Belt since 1945

  This region, stretching from western New York to eastern Iowa, was until the middle of the 20th century the country's manufacturing and industrial heartland. From the Great Migrations that radically transformed its demographics to the weakening of its economic model, as well as the massive struggles waged by local workers and protagonists of the Civil Rights movement, the political and social history of the Rust Bel. By bringing into dialogue the ongoing or recently completed research of doctoral students and junior academics with a view to opening up new perspectives on the history of the Rust Belt, from a range of disciplines (history, sociology, political science, geography), we intend to highlight spaces and actors too often relegated to the margins of this region’s history, despite their having decisively contributed to shaping the contemporary Rust Belt

  The Eure valley - a river and territories

  La position historique et la configuration géographique du bassin versant de l’Eure, à l’ouest du bassin Parisien, offrent un cadre riche et original pour aborder les questionnements sur les logiques d’occupation du sol, les dynamiques de peuplement et la structuration des territoires, sur le temps long et à différentes échelles. Sur le plan géographique, l’Eure forme une sorte de colonne vertébrale d’orientation Sud / Nord, entre la Loire (avec laquelle elle n’a pas de lien hydrographique) et la Seine dans laquelle elle se jette. Cette position la met au cœur de phénomènes pluriels d’évolution des territoires, conséquence directe des évolutions politiques dont elle est témoin, qui rendent complexes, rétrospectivement, notre compréhension et appréhension de l’évolution des cultures matérielles aux influences multiples.

  The social criticism of language

  Le séminaire Critiques sociales du langage propose un espace interdisciplinaire de réflexions théoriques, méthodologiques et politiques sur les articulations possibles entre « langage » et « société ». Partant du constat que toute relation sociale est constituée de pratiques communicatives et que toute pratique langagière s’actualise au sein de rapports sociaux, nous souhaitons nous interroger sur ce à quoi pourrait renvoyer « l’épaisseur sociale » du langage et réciproquement, « l’épaisseur langagière » du social.
