  Our Time Has Come

  Towards Transatlantic and Transdisciplinary Approaches to Black Counter-Representations, from 1945 until Today

  The central goal of this conference lies thus in the investigation of the multiplicity of visual representations produced by the Black population and diaspora between France and the United States in the second half of the 20th century. In particular, we invite researchers to focus on productions which have challenged—directly or indirectly—the traditional canon for Black representations. Of particular interest in this conference are examples demonstrating a visual/ideologic rupture with depreciative models that permeated the public imagination in the West, whether they be positive counter-models or new visual representations aiming to critically subvert formerly pejorative representational frames.

  Diplomatic departures: negotiating Britain’s international outreach in the contemporary world

  In recent years, the expansion of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office network into new countries has generated increasing interest in the role of the places and spaces where diplomacy is made, in the international outreach of the United Kingdom and in the interactions between state and non-state actors and initiatives in delivering foreign policy objectives. What has received perhaps less sustained attention is the impact of diplomatic departures in Britain and in the British diplomatic network on the rethinking of Britain’s influence and power (hard, soft and smart). These departures - from the more dramatic to the more mundane - will be the focus of this conference, which will reflect on the adaptability and resilience of Britain’s international networks, and on what characterises both British diplomacy and Britain as a diplomatic space.

  Le colloque L’État des économistes. La science économique face à la puissance publique (XX^e-XXI^e siècles) se tiendra à Amiens les 21 et 22 novembre prochains, au Logis du Roy, square Jules Bocquet (près du Palais de justice). Il est organisé avec le soutien de l’université de Picardie Jules Verne, de la région Hauts-de-France, du CURAPP-ESS, du CRESPPA LabTop, du LEST, du RT 27 (Sociologie des intellectuels et de l’expertise) et du RT 42 (Sociologie des élites) de l’Association française de sociologie.

  Feedback on the Creil affair: 1989-2019

  Il y a trente ans, dans un établissement scolaire de Creil, survenait « l’affaire du foulard ». Que se cache-t-il derrière cette appellation, restée dans la mémoire collective ? Comment trois voiles de collégiennes dans une commune déshéritée de l’Oise ont-ils pu susciter autant de prises de positions et polémiques ? Comment et pourquoi la société française- civile comme politique-a-t-elle été (si) divisée ? Trente ans après les faits, c’est à ces questions que cette journée d’études s’attelle, au travers d’une série d’analyses fondées sur des recherches en cours, et appuyées sur une documentation renouvelée et en partie inédite.

  "Picardie - success in education" research project - restitution day

  Le projet de recherche « Preuve » (Picardie-réussite-éducative) vise à comprendre les spécificités éducatives de la Picardie, aujourd’hui partie intégrante des Hauts de France. Le territoire picard se distingue en effet nettement, et ce depuis plusieurs décennies, du reste de la France métropolitaine (taux de diplômes, choix de filières, accès à l’enseignement supérieur). Le projet « Preuve » fait résolument le  choix d’une approche interdisciplinaire (sciences de l’éducation,  histoire, STAPS, méthodes quantitatives et qualitatives) pour comprendre et étudier cette spécificité. Les résultats de ce projet seront présentés lors de cette journée d'étude.

  Comparative perspectives of fiscal justice (10th-21st centuries)

  Equality or special statuses?

  Parce que l’impôt est un prélèvement contraint – ou, tout du moins, pouvant se dispenser de l’accord du contribuable –, la question de sa justice est un problème constant. Il est certes possible, sinon tentant, d’y répondre sommairement en le considérant comme intrinsèquement injuste – Taxation is theft– ou de juger la question vaine puisque, juste ou non, l’impôt devra être payé – Nothing is certain but death and taxes ! Pourtant, à l’heure où le gouvernement français s’apprête à engager plusieurs réformes de la fiscalité, la justice fiscale semble à questionner sur plusieurs plans. Dans ses aspects les plus concrets, elle se donne bien sûr immédiatement à voir dans l’organisation, le fonctionnement et les réformes successives du système fiscal. Cependant, l’incontestable technicité de la matière – souvent fantasmée comme forcément attentatoire aux intérêts particuliers – ne doit pas dissimuler l’importance des questions qui s’y jouent.
