  Governing sciences and technologies, governing through the sciences and technologies: the issues for women (late 19th-early 21st century))

  L’histoire des femmes dans les sciences et les techniques a fait l’objet d’un véritable renouveau historiographique ces dernières années. Les travaux réalisés ont notamment montré que leur présence dans ces domaines, si elle s’était renforcée à partir de la fin du XIX^e siècle, était loin d’avoir été le résultat d’un processus continu et inéluctable : leur accession a été difficile et réversible, avec le maintien d’importantes discriminations jusqu’à nos jours. Ce colloque souhaite participer à ce mouvement historiographique en s’intéressant peut-être moins aux femmes dans les sciences et les techniques en tant qu’actrices de pratiques situées qu’en se focalisant sur une dimension qui fait l’objet d’une préoccupation croissante de nos jours : à savoir la place et le rôle des femmes dans le gouvernement des sciences et des techniques, et dans le gouvernement par les sciences et les techniques.

  Prosopography: objects and methods

  Pluridisciplinary research seminar (2019-2020)

  Alors que se multiplient les travaux revendiquant une approche prosopographique, ce séminaire de recherche propose d’interroger la méthode elle-même en analysant les travaux réalisés ou en cours, sous un angle scientifique (construction de l’enquête) et méthodologique (du choix des sources à la restitution des résultats). Ces questionnements favorisent la confrontation des différentes sciences sociales qui recourent à la prosopographie, ainsi que les réflexions utiles aux recherches futures. Ce lieu de rencontre permet aussi d’approfondir le dialogue entre chercheurs et archivistes, ainsi qu’entre historiens des quatre périodes, en mettant en évidence des gisements de sources mal connus ou inédits et en revenant sur les modalités d’usage les plus fécondes. Chacune des séances est organisée de manière thématique et réunit deux à trois interventions.

  Killing the fathers: Women behind the camera on home movies

  The Study day « Killing the fathers : Women behind the camera on home movies » proposes a collective reflection on amateur images produced by the family.  By affirming and perpetuating the family institution in its patriarchal, nuclear and heterosexual configuration, the home movie has thus contributed to reproduce the bourgeois codes and hierarchies of gender and sexuality. By conceiving amateur cinema as a “technology of gender” (De Lauretis, 1987), we welcome papers on amateur images made by women to uncover and analyse their own “familial gaze”.

  Le séminaire OuThèPo propose aux doctorant·e·s de l’Institut d'histoire moderne et contemporaine (IHMC) et d’autres laboratoires de se retrouver le 16 mai 2019 autour de la thématique « Circuler, voyager, migrer ». En lien avec le quatrième axe de recherche du laboratoire de l’IHMC, intitulé « Mobilités et échanges », cette thématique vise ainsi à mettre en avant les travaux de doctorant·e·s qui ont trait aux questions de circulations et d’échanges, et qui s’inscrivent dans les importants renouvellements historiographiques en histoire globale et transnationale de ces dernières années.

  Shapes of Futures

  For the nineteenth-century man, the future was “a simple combination of already known things” that could be calculated on the basis of given probabilities. For the twentieth-century man, the concept of the future was entirely different. But, perhaps, disorder is not the last word that humanity has to say about its understanding of the future. Liquid modernity has melted into postmodernity and, after almost two decades of the twenty-first century have passed, one may ask about the contemporary visions and conceptions of the future. Is the future, as Hawkins asserts categorically just “a spectrum of possibilities”? Or, maybe, in Derrida’s words, “the ineluctable world of the future […] proclaims itself at present, beyond the closure of knowledge.”

  Incorporating sexual violence into Czech WWII history and its aftermath: A Workshop

  The one-day event, featuring leading experts in the field Regina Mühlhäuser and Anna Hájková, will combine an introductory lecture, two panels of talks, and close work with primary sources. We are seeking submissions for participation with abstract (up to 300 words, including discussion of sources, and a short bio, up to 100 words). We are interested in the history of Second World War defined widely, that is people working on Czech and Slovak 1930s and 1940s, ethnic minorities, Holocaust, expulsion etc. pp.
