  Europe, the world and historians of the 21st century - for a rereading of the ideas of Pierre Chaunu

  Dix ans après la disparition de Pierre Chaunu (1923-2009), son héritage intellectuel nécessite un premier bilan. Pionnier et passeur, cet historien a bâti une importante œuvre personnelle et fait école dans la seconde moitié du XX^e siècle. Plus largement et de façon diffuse, il a élargi sans cesse le champ des problématiques historiques et proposé diverses méthodes pour les résoudre dont les historiennes et historiens actuels sont comptables. L’objectif de ce colloque est d’examiner les possibles relectures des idées et des concepts nés ou/et diffusés par Pierre Chaunu pendant son demi-siècle de magistère pour en mesurer à la fois l’actualité et les écarts avec les questions actuelles, cela à partir du point de vue d’historiens et historiennes du XXI^e siècle, dont la formation n’a été influencée qu’indirectement par l’enseignement de l’historien.

  Incorporating sexual violence into Czech WWII history and its aftermath: A Workshop

  The one-day event, featuring leading experts in the field Regina Mühlhäuser and Anna Hájková, will combine an introductory lecture, two panels of talks, and close work with primary sources. We are seeking submissions for participation with abstract (up to 300 words, including discussion of sources, and a short bio, up to 100 words). We are interested in the history of Second World War defined widely, that is people working on Czech and Slovak 1930s and 1940s, ethnic minorities, Holocaust, expulsion etc. pp.

  The Crimean War, the first european modern war?

  the Crimean War marked, with the Civil War (1861-1865), a great historical and anthropological turning point in military history, witnessing profound transformations not only in the way of fighting, but also in the relations between societies and war, during and after the conflict. This conference will aim in putting the Crimean War in this new historiographical approach to  military conflicts by highlighting three fundamental aspects: The anthropological approach, the transnational dimension, the sociocultural dimension of the conflict, and its memory.
