  Studying medieval buildings (1850-1950)

  Actors, stakes and methods

  The history of medieval architecture was written, from the mid-19^th century, by men whose training, career and objectives were variable. In fact, they each developed their methods of analysis and their reading grids of medieval buildings, which are at the origin of our practices in art history and archeology. To be interested in these men and their works: this is the purpose of this study day that will allow to implement, at the scale of Western Europe, this epistemological approach of the medieval sciences dedicated to the castral, civil or religious building. Beyond the monuments themselves, which take the place of a major source, correspondences of scientists, archives of learned societies, photographs, old drawings, or the funds of historical monuments, for example, may be used to deal with one or more of the topics presented below.

  Prehistory in the present: mediations, writings and images

  Comment se manifeste l’idée de préhistoire aujourd’hui ? Comment, avec quoi, pourquoi la fabriquons-nous ? Et que fabrique-t-elle en nous à l’ère du transhumanisme et de la crise écologique que nous vivons ? Ce colloque international réunit écrivains, dramaturges, artistes plasticiens, cinéastes, chorégraphes et musiciens, en dialogue avec des professionnels des musées et de la médiation et des chercheurs en sciences humaines, pour réfléchir à la productivité de l’idée de préhistoire dans l’imaginaire contemporain. Une première journée porte sur les rapports entre création et médiation, une deuxième sur la présence de l’idée de préhistoire dans la littérature, le théâtre, la chorégraphie et la musique, une troisième sur son élaboration dans les arts visuels.

  The cathedral construction site in Europe

  The distribution and safeguard of knowledge, know-how and materials from the Middle Ages to the present day

  À la suite de l’inclusion des savoir-faire de la Fondation de l’Œuvre Notre-Dame de Strasbourg à l’inventaire national du patrimoine culturel immatériel en France (2017), la recherche de reconnaissance de la sauvegarde des savoirs, compétences techniques et pratiques sociales des ateliers de cathédrales a progressivement fédéré dix-huit ateliers dans cinq pays européens (Allemagne, Autriche, France, Norvège, Suisse). Les contributeurs du colloque étudieront la spécificité du fonctionnement des chantiers et des métiers impliqués dans la construction des cathédrales hier et dans leur restauration aujourd’hui, et mettront en valeur les sources, écrites ou figurées, autorisant la recherche en ces domaines et la façon dont elles ont été exploitées ces toutes dernières décennies ; ils questionneront enfin le phénomène de circulation et d’échanges des savoirs et des compétences que l’on connaît depuis le Moyen Âge autour des chantiers des cathédrales.
