  The epistemology of drawing

  Concepts, readings and interpretations - 20th-21st century

  Réfléchir aux fondements du dessin – lieu d’inspiration pour l’artiste, « activateur de pensée », projection de fantasmes artistiques, trace balbutiante de compositions « in progress », transcription brute d’imaginaires figurés, « premier jet » graphique d’abstractions conceptuelles, vérification « sur pièces » d’hypothèses rêvées, essai visant à tester la capacité réalisatrice, aboutissement d’utopies intangibles par d’autres techniques, etc. – autant que poser les pratiques et usages sociaux du dessin – intimité secrète d’une œuvre à l’amont de son processus, circulation d’une ébauche servant de modèles aux disciples, projet destiné aux commanditaires, fondement de l’enseignement artistique au XIX^e siècle, objet de convoitise des collectionneurs, trace mobile aisément reproductible, etc. –, inscrit le débat d’idées à la frontière de l’histoire de l’art, de la génétique et de l’histoire culturelle.

  What of truth can be taught?

  Ce projet d’ouvrage collectif est porté par Emmanuel Nal (Mulhouse, LISEC, EA 2310, équipe Normes et Valeurs) et Sylvain Roux (Poitiers, MAPP, EA 2626). Il s’inscrit dans le domaine de la philosophie pratique, commun aux axes de recherche des deux laboratoires et s’adresse à un public d’enseignants, mais aussi de soignants et de manière générale à un public citoyen ; son objet consiste à interroger l’état de l’art des recherches menées sur la vérité dans une finalité d’épistémologie de l’action : que peut-on faire et que peut-on enseigner de la vérité ?

  Quantum Social Theory: The Future of Sociology?

  In sociology, without explicit basis on quantum theory, numerous streams established strong similarities with it, setting at the forefront of their paradigm: the subjectivity of the observer, the continuous adjustment between the object and the observer, the impossibility to be fully deterministic or discussions about an objective reality. In this session, we invite panellists to discuss the links that can be drawn between quantum theory and sociology. We welcome both empirical (qualitative or quantitative) as well as theoretical papers. Depending on the variety and the quality of the papers, a publication will be considered to set the basis of this emerging theoretical stream.

  Enhancing human in Europe: dream and nightmare of the interwar period

  Number of historians and philosophers consider in general that transhumanism and its aim at enhancing the human through applied science and technology have their roots in the inter-war period: Julian Huxley, Jean Coutrot, John B.S. Haldane or John D. Bernal are indeed massively considered as the precursors of such ideas. But are they the sole references to mention when considering the inter-war origins of transhumanism, or are they just the tip of the iceberg of a broader current of thought emerging at that time? Such question immediately raises another one, which requires clarification : can current transhumanism(s) really be linked to the ideas emerging in the inter-war period ? The aim of the workshop will be first to check whether and how the idea of an enhanced human through technology intervention may have circulated in Europe during that time. Secondly, space will be given to look for pertinent criteria for the identification of a « transhumanism » of the inter-war period, by evaluating the nature of the indices which may be studied: mobilizing ideas, currents of thoughts, schools of thoughts, sociotechnical imaginaries, etc. Within these perspectives, the workshop will make possible comparisons between the different European contexts (England, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, etc.), and the several papers will help us to better understand the circulation of ideas, networks and human exchanges which contributed to forge the cradle of transhumanist ideas. Communications will be in French or in English.

  Study days - Epistemology and methodology

  A look at Louis Rougier (1889-1982)

  Louis Rougier (1889-1982) est un des grands épistémologues français de l’entre-deux-guerres. Il fut proche du Cercle de Vienne, seul membre français du Mouvement pour l’Unité de la Science qui lui a succédé, organisateur à Paris en 1938 du colloque Lippmann (considéré comme l’acte de naissance du néo-libéralisme) : cependant l’œuvre de ce personnage controversé reste largement méconnue. Cette journée d’études, qui s’inscrit dans le prolongement du colloque international qui lui a été consacré à Genève en octobre 2004, propose de préciser divers aspects de sa pensée, en examinant plus particulièrement les rapports qu’il a entretenus avec certains de ses contemporains (Boll, Destouches, Allais). Il s’agira aussi de compléter notre connaissance du monde académique français avant et après la seconde guerre mondiale.

  Une journée d'études consacrée aux relations entre le transhumanisme et la science-fiction, dans une approche pluridisciplinaire (philosophie, histoire, littérature, cinéma). Cette journée s'inscrivant dans le off du festival international « Séries Mania » (Lille, 22 au 20 mars 2019), l'après-midi est consacrée aux thématiques transhumanistes dans les séries télévisées.
