  Reading and dreaming. Youth literature and disability

  La littérature de jeunesse, média largement partagé par les parents, les professionnelles et professionnels, les enseignantes et enseignants, n’est pas d’accès égal pour tous. La journée d’étude du 22 octobre 2019 a pour objectif de mettre en lumière ce qu’il en est de cette question pour les jeunes en situation de handicap. Elle vise à réfléchir à l’accès au livre et au sens de cette littérature, et à promouvoir des pratiques facilitatrices. Il s’agit lors de cette journée d’explorer la façon dont les différents acteurs conçoivent et envisagent la question de l’accès au sens, notamment à l’implicite et à la dimension littéraire. Dans cette perspective, la question des modèles d’héroïnes ou de héros avec un handicap est abordée par le prisme des albums.

  Issue 16 of IdeAs magazine. Ideas from the Americas, to be published in October 2020, will focus on “The creative power of margins: the rise of black, native, and mixed-race intellectuals in the Americas, 19th-20th centuries”. We want to focus on the Black and non-white intellectual Americas. We receive proposals for articles on all countries of the American continent, in French, English, Spanish or Portuguese.

  Pathos. Forms and fortunes of literary emotions

  The goal of this summer school is to explore the role of emotions in literature, namely with respect to the excess of pathos in different forms and times. Pathos has been a fundamental aspect of literature in every epoch. Great poetry has always foregrounded its ability to represent feelings, evoke intense and vivid moods, and elicit readers’ emotions and empathy. On the other hand, the novel – the genre dominating literary modernity – has been o!en accused of indulging in sentimental excess, giving too much space to melodramatic expression. Indeed, in Western cultures, there is a widespread suspicion towards pathos, which has o!en been identified as a shortcoming of literature. Great books – according to a common implicit assumption – can prompt reflection and laughter, but not tears: pathos only concerns lowbrow production. The summer school is an opportunity to engage in a reflection on issues related to pathos in literature in the last few centuries. Different perspectives will be taken into account: specific literary works, reader response theory, cognitive narratology, transmedia adaptation, and publishing history.

  Cette rencontre scientifique, organisée en deux volets, cherche à dresser un état des lieux, en s’appuyant sur des travaux à la croisée de plusieurs disciplines (littérature, arts graphiques, arts de la scène, sociologie, droit, médecine). Il s’agira d’explorer les différentes inscriptions du littéraire sur la peau : citations, illustrations, portraits d’auteurs et de personnages, QR code, autographes, logotypes, sigles.
