  Crises and Infrastructures: Responses to Change Between Materiality and Immateriality

  A Dialogue Between Anthropology, Geography and History

  PhD students from the XXXIV cycle of the joint PhD Programme in Historical, Geographical, Anthropological Studies (University of Padova, Ca' Foscari Venice, Verona) are happy to invite you to their conference, titled "Crises and Infrastructures: Responses to Change Between Materiality and Immateriality. A Dialogue Between Anthropology, Geography and History". We will be exploring the interactions between various examples of Crises and Infrastructural response, trying to push for an interdisciplinary dialogue. We aim to reflect not only on the role of infrastructures as means of problem-solving, but also on the varied outcomes of critical moments.   Science and madness, extravagance, exception

  Alchemists, magicians, outlaw scientists in italian culture

  This volume aims at exploring the ways of science as excess and madness (see Zangrandi 2011, 2017; Garlaschelli and Carrer 2017) or, in less tragic forms, as an opportunity to explore new paths of knowledge. Another goal is to shed light on the character’s evolution, tracing the roots of a literary and cultural trope that, since the 20^th century, takes on multiple configurations and plays manifold functions. Looking back to the past, this theme can be traced in the Romanticism’s rejection of the exact science and in the particular declination proposed by Leopardi in his Operette morali, or even in the disquieting image of the alchemist of the Renaissance, whose superior knowledge of natural phenomena turns into the extreme and a punishable hybris.

  Du rite au mythe : le carnaval dans la culture européenne

  D’où vient la profonde exigence sociale du carnaval et quels sont les thèmes et les motifs que cette tradition a fait émerger dans notre héritage culturel et artistique ? Du drame bouffon à la farce et à la grande tradition de la commedia dell’arte italienne, des observations de Goethe sur le carnaval de Rome aux compositions de Schumann (Carnaval, op. 9) et de Saint-Saëns (Le Carnaval des Animaux), jusqu’à la peinture de Brueghel l’Ancien, Monet, Pissarro et Elrond, le carnaval a fasciné de nombreux auteurs. Le but de ce colloque est de recueillir et de combiner des idées innovatrices pour l’analyse ou la reformulation de ce mythe, en créant un pont entre les perspectives de lecture les plus diverses dans le domaine des humanités.

  Dans l’extrême liberté que possède la littérature à imaginer du nouveau, l’anomalie est sans doute l’outil le plus radical qu’elle puisse exploiter. Cependant, l’anormal a souvent été caractérisé comme l’infraction, volontaire ou involontaire, des normes et des règles, et ce concept a été rattaché à l’« anormal ». La confusion terminologique qui s’en est ensuivie a longtemps entravé toute réflexion précise sur les caractéristiques intrinsèques au concept d’anomalie. Quel cadre concevoir pour ces irrégularités ? Comment bâtir un discours qui veille à ne pas réduire l’individualité de l’écart que l’anomalie oppose – et appose – aux normes, à la normalité, sans être, pour autant, « anormal » ? Quelles ruptures produit l’irruption de l’anomalie vis-à-vis des préjugés sociaux, psychologiques et/ou artistique et des cadres établis ? Quel champ ouvre-t-elle à la limitation de notre horizon d’attente et de nos expériences ?
