Ipseity and Alterity: Re-thinking Subjectivity with Levinas

    AUC Interpretationes 2020/1

Philosophies revolving around the concept of subjectivity seem to have already been out-of-date in the current philosophical debate, whereas philosophies “after” subjectivity have taken their place. Nevertheless, if we dare to emphasize the vividness of a particular philosophy that takes subjectivity as a central theme, in what other sense could it be more than a simple anachronism? What are the characteristics of such vividness? To what kind of philosophical debates might such a philosophy lead us, and could it shed light upon the problems of our time? Seeking to find some possible answers to these questions, the forthcoming issue of Interpretationes is dedicated to Emmanuel Levinas and his innovations in the field of subjectivity, concerning especially the notions of “Ipseity” and “Alterity”

    Situated Teaching

18th issue of "Verbum et Lingua"

Issue 18 of Verbum et Lingua will publish research and reflection articles on Situated Teaching. We welcome articles that focus on the various emerging pedagogical practices in language teaching that embrace experiential, reflective practice, situated projects,problem-based learning, etc. This paradigm presents new challenges for schools, teachers and learners and raises a series of questions: What consequences does this pedagogical proposal imply for teachers, both in their training and in their practice? What consequences does it represent for the learner? How does it transform the school in its relationship with society?

Founding, selecting, defending: how to make democracy survive (1918-1960)?

Figures and Perspectives on the Mass and the Individual in Capitalist Modernity (19th-21st century)

How is it possible to use the notion of mass without making it collapse into a complete condemnation of collective action or into an acritical celebration of the crowd? From there on, the relationship between mass and individual can be addressed in many fashions: Are there any specific ways for the mass to organize itself as a political subject? What are means whereby artworks represent and transform the linkage between  mass and individual? What are the mutations undergone by the mass qua object of the social sciences? How does capitalist modernity affect the moral and psychic autonomy of individuals?

From ritual to myth: Carnival in European culture

Between Life and Existence. Nietzsche and French Existentialism

Our symposium therefore aims to close this research gap by including all relevant disciplines (philosophy, literary studies, history of ideas ...). Contributions can deal with biographical aspects of the subject (to what extent did the French existentialists really read Nietzsche?), comparisons of the respective philosophies, or with questions pertaining to the topicality of the theses and matters discussed. We endeavor to cover the travel and accommodation costs for the speakers, but cannot guarantee them at the present time.

    Europhilosophy master winter course
