  Call for papers - Middle Ages

  The Classics in the Pulpit. Ancient Literature and Preaching in the Middle Ages

  The aim of the conference is to shed new light on this both striking and irritating practice. Papers (25 min) can deal with topics such as the reasons and occasions for the use of the classics in preaching, the hermeneutic and literary strategies applied in order to adapt pagan mythology to homiletic needs, the social and educational background of preachers and their audiences, the connections of classicizing sermons with other fields of literature such as vernacular poetry, or the discourse they provoked within the clerical milieu. Applications from all relevant disciplines (e.g. history, literature, theology, philosophy) are welcome.

  Ruptures and norms: declensions and degrees of non-conformity

  Cette journée d’étude a pour but d’interroger le concept de « ruptures » par le biais des normes. En articulant les deux notions, la question de la non-conformité semble s’imposer comme objet d’analyse. Bien que les forces incitant à la conformité soient puissantes, et que la conformité soit ainsi omniprésente, la non-conformité et la tendance à être en rupture avec les normes est également très répandue. La non-conformité se manifeste en des formes très diverses et invite à des analyses pluridisciplinaires. Cette journée d’étude s’inscrit dans le programme des rencontres scientifiques « Ruptures » de l’équipe de recherche pluridisciplinaire LÉMIC (Littérature – Étrangéité – Mutations – Identités culturelles) de l’Université catholique de l’Ouest.

  Mediterranean dialogues about priests

  L’objectif du séminaire « Femmes et religions en Méditerranée » est de s’intéresser à la manière dont les femmes des deux rives de la Méditerranée ont vécu dans le passé, et vivent et interagissent actuellement, dans un espace social, culturel et religieux particulier. L’espace méditerranéen est en effet marqué depuis des siècles par la concurrence de plusieurs traditions religieuses qui partagent - entre autres - une même culture fondatrice apparue dans un contexte antique, médiéval (ou même moderne), de nature résolument patriarcale.
