Who named the gods? Utterers, addressers, ritual agents
The ERC MAP Seminar “The Names of the Gods! 5: Who named the gods? Utterers, addressers, ritual agents” pursues the investigation on the systems of naming of the divine. This year, it focuses on the human agents in the process of naming the divine, whether they are producers of a discourse on the deities, addressers in a communication with the deities, or even experts in charge of a ritual knowledge. What agency do men and women exercise in the production of a specific denomination of the divine? How can we question their choices, their anchoring in a tradition or their innovation strategies?

Gender research school (CORMED)
2020 marque le lancement de la première de la quatrième édition de l’école de recherche CORMED. Cette première édition est composée de 3 journées de rencontres-formation multisituées organisées dans trois pays partenaires : France, Tunisie, Turquie. Chaque journée de rencontre-formation comptera des sessions communes numériques organisées alternativement par un des pays (France, Tunisie, Turquie) et des ateliers de deux heures organisés dans les différents sites des partenaires.

Que ce soit dans les domaines à enjeux environnementaux comme le climat, l’énergie, la biodiversité ou l’eau, ou dans les domaines de la démographie, de l’immigration ou de l’éducation, le bassin méditerranéen se révèle un territoire particulièrement intéressant pour traiter de l’action publique à l’épreuve des transformations socio-environnementales globales : pour voir comment se documentent et s’enregistrent les évolutions, comment s’alimentent les politiques publiques dans leur ambition prospective, notamment sous les mots d’ordre de la « transition » et du « développement durable ». Ce travail de post-doctorat devra examiner comment la pensée prospective utilise ses différents outils, notamment l'approche par les scénarios, pour penser des défis présents et futurs, aussi bien pour les volets de protection de la santé et de l’environnement que pour la promotion d’activités plus attentives à ces enjeux.

Freedom and Death in the Greek Revolution of 1821
Microhistorical analyses of battles in the Epirotic and Balkan areas
In 2021, during the 200th anniversary of the proclamation of the Greek Revolution of 1821, the Department of History and Archeology will hold another international conference on "Freedom and Death in the Greek Revolution of 1821. Microhistorical analyses of battles in the Epirotic and the Balkan area". The conference will address issues of Greek historiography, such as the Modern Greek Enlightenment in Epirus, Souli, and the networks of Souliotes; operations in Epirus; the battles of Peta, Philhellenes, Plaka, and Kompoti; Lord Byron on Epirus; the strategies of Ali Pasha; the Epirotic networks in Moldovlachia; and the lives and deaths of revolutionaries. Using modern methodological tools and a microhistory approach to conduct systematic research of both new and old archives, the conference will offer original and interesting approaches to an already rich discussion.

Ce colloque propose une approche historique et pluridisciplinaire des « pestes » qui ont sévi dans l’aire méditerranéenne depuis l’Antiquité jusqu’à nos jours. Programmé en amont de la Covid 19, pour commémorer le tricentenaire de la peste de 1720 à Marseille, il fournit une occasion unique de réfléchir sur les fléaux épidémiques au moment même où nos sociétés en font l’expérience.

Cult Epithets as an Inteface between Religious Systems and Human Agency), led by Corinne Bonnet, is now accepting applications for a postdoctoral position (100%) from the 01/03/2021 at the Université Toulouse – Jean Jaurès. This call for applications is addressed, in particular, to researchers in the history of the religions of antiquity, with an excellent knowledge of ancient Greek and a good familiarity with epigraphical corpora.

This conference also benefits from the support of the Initiative 1821-2021. The languages of the conference will be French and English.

Le ou la postdoctorant·e mènera un projet de recherche sur le thème « Vivre en temps de crise. Une approche anthropologique par les objets », en lien avec un axe scientifique de l’institut SoMuM ainsi qu’une enquête collecte du Mucem. Religiousness in Mediterrranean towns (12th-15th century)
Ce quatrième atelier de formation doctorale s’inscrit dans le prolongement direct de la scuola di alti studi dottorali qui, de 2004 à 2016, a constitué un lieu de formation de pointe pour les jeunes chercheurs consacrant leurs recherches à l’étude de la culture locale. L’objectif des ateliers est l’étude des sociétés urbaines du Moyen Âge, en mettant l’accent sur les systèmes politiques et les différentes manifestations de l’imaginaire urbain et en portant le regard sur toutes les villes du bassin méditerranéen – celles de l’Occident chrétien, celles de la zone d’influence byzantine et celles des régions sous domination islamique. Les ateliers offrent un environnement stimulant pour les échanges intellectuels entre spécialistes réputés et jeunes chercheurs en formation, pour favoriser, à travers des moments de discussion et d’échange, le renouvellement de la recherche et l’élargissement des perspectives comparatives.

La Méditerranée est sans doute une des régions du monde parmi les plus affectées par le réchauffement climatique et les bouleversements de notre écosystème. Ce constat est le point de départ de notre réflexion collective sur les changements de nos modes de vie. Comment vivre ? Sans doute bien différemment, dès aujourd’hui, et plus encore demain, compte tenu des fragilités de longue date du monde méditerranéen. Changer nos modes de vie ? Telle est la question qui servira de fil conducteur au cours des six séances de notre atelier de recherche, en 2020.

Call for papers - Early modern
Following in the footsteps of Fernand Braudel, an increasing number of recent studies show that the Mediterranean basin might be considered as a “borderland”, “borderscape” or “Frontier” suggesting that this area is not strictly a border between Christian and Muslim civilization, but a basin in which the two traditions and cultures meet and overlap, with an extraordinary variety of reactions to the hegemonic practices (acceptance, conflict, refusal, dissent). The aim of this conference is to bring together scholars who will discuss, from different perspectives and with a multidisciplinary approach, the variety of themes (topics) which revolve around the common issue of reflecting the problem of borderlands as a consequence of the encounter between Christendom and Ottoman Empire in the Early modern Mediterranean. The starting point of examination will be images, i.e. the usage of images (pictures, mental images, literary images and other visual representations …) as historical evidence.

Le projet AgroCCol a pour ambition d’analyser les modes d’élaboration et de transmission du savoir agronomique antique à partir du deuxième livre du De re rustica de Columelle (Ier siècle après J.-C.) et de la thématique de la culture des céréales et des légumineuses.

Economic, maritime and political perspectives, 1669-1797
This seminar aims to explore the relationship between Venice and the Mediterranean between the loss of Crete, the last major dominion of Venetian maritime empire in 1669, and the end of the Republic in 1797. Through the analysis of economic and commercial exchanges, naval activities and diplomatic/military relations of the Serenissima in the Mediterranean, we aim to discuss the dynamics of transformation and adjustment of the Republic’s new status as a regional power faced with the challenges of an Inner Sea crossed and populated by more powerful and richer competitors.
