  Aluminium in architecture and in the city (19th-21st centuries), heritage in perspective

  Accueillant entre autres historiens, professionnels du patrimoine, architectes et ingénieurs, la première séance du séminaire du programme de recherche Archipal propose un « croisement de regards » autour de deux œuvres architecturales caractéristiques du patrimoine architectural moderne français, ayant récemment fait l’objet de réhabilitations et où le matériau aluminium est en jeu. La Maison des sciences de l’homme (boulevard Raspail) et la Villa Lods - Le Val Chaton à Sérigny (Orne) seront abordées par chercheurs, praticiens et acteurs qui peuvent s’intéresser à des titres parfois très divers à ces édifices. À travers ces exemples, il s’agira notamment de s’interroger sur l’articulation entre les logiques ayant présidé à une reconnaissance patrimoniale, voire à une protection au titre des monuments historiques, et les contraintes d’un projet architectural de réhabilitation.

  Crank handles: A muscular history of industrialization (XVIII th -XXI th centuries)

  The crank handle is an apparently simple device, so simple that its historical study seems to stop when industrialization begins. Although the first industrial machines did not run on coal and steam but on muscles and cranks. The workshop aims to interrogate the persistence of the crank handle driven by human force, even as new energy sources overlap. To what extent did the cranks accompany the mechanization of production in the past and today? How did they shape contemporary industrialization? How did these crank techniques coexist with large industry? In what spaces and under what conditions does this cohabitation take place?
