Nájera. 17th International Meetings of the Middle Ages

International Meetings of the Middle Ages in Nájera have been proposed as an international congress in the field of study and dissemination of Medieval History since 2003. The theme for this year’s meetings is Economic policies and strategies in the Medieval Atlantic City. Atlantic city, arose in the Middle Ages, was based on a series of key factors -such as the geographical features, infrastructures and very dynamic societies-, but also because urban policies adopted, in those peripheral cities due to its geographical location, some common and different characteristics from the cities of the interior of the continent, whose economic policies and strategies we are proposing to analyze in this conference.

Génésis. Revue africaine des questions territoriales est une nouvelle revue. Dans un paysage académique, socio-culturel et politico-économique en perpétuelles mutations, aux défis aussi urgents les uns que les autres, et dans lequel tout ou presque semble renvoyer à la gouvernance en Afrique et singulièrement au Cameroun, il était temps de produire un nouveau périodique. Il s’agit d’un regard neuf qui propose une vision originale sur les questions de gouvernance territoriale et plus spécifiquement de la décentralisation en Afrique et singulièrement au Cameroun en ce début du XXI^e siècle. La revue Génésis passe au crible des problématiques qui structurent les stratégies de développement et de gouvernance du continent ; elle met en avant des propositions pragmatiques pour des résultats efficients. La revue africaine des questions territoriales s'inscrit ainsi dans une perspective pluridisciplinaire et accueille des auteurs pluriels, venus des horizons scientifiques variés. Il s’agit des auteurs dont les publications se focalisent sur les questions de décentralisation et de gouvernance locale en rapport avec le développement du continent.

Tourism, environment, society and sustainable development

Depuis le processus de démocratisation du régime, le Bénin mise sur le tourisme pour participer au développement du pays. Le récent plan stratégique de développement touristique (2017-2027), la création de formations de niveau supérieur dans les domaines du tourisme et de l’hôtellerie ainsi que les nouvelles options retenues par le gouvernement en matière de durabilité laissent entrevoir le développement d’un tourisme de meilleure qualité reposant sur la valorisation des atouts indéniables du territoire et une bien meilleure maîtrise de ce secteur d’activité par les autochtones. C’est dans ce contexte qu’est née l’idée d’une organisation conjointe d’un colloque international pluridisciplinaire. Ainsi, à partir de la thématique transversale du tourisme, le colloque explore des disciplines variées telles que l’agronomie, les sciences sociales et économiques, la géographie humaine et physique, les potentialités de l’environnement et les dialogues Nord-Sud et Sud-Nord, l’usage des technologies numériques et des formations en matière de développement durable.

L’université Paul Valéry Montpellier 3 et MO.CO. Montpellier Contemporain, avec le soutien de l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art, organisent le 20 novembre 2020 une journée d’étude sur la visibilité des collections privées dans les institutions culturelles publiques. Dans un contexte de raréfaction des fonds publics dédié à l’acquisition d’oeuvres, la visibilité de -tout ou parties- de collections déjà constituées représente un enjeu majeur de la scène artistique contemporaine. Pour autant, de multiples controverses mettent en garde contre la starification des collections privées, leur impact sur le marché de l’art, et sur les dangers d’une emprise des collectionneurs sur les institutions culturelles publiques.

Artistic, Digital, and Political Creation in English-Speaking African Countries

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on 3rd July 2018 in Lagos that a Special Season would be organized in France, from June to December 2020, to mark a renewed partnership with Africa, a “varied, strong and diverse continent that will play a part in our shared future”. Even if this cultural focus cannot be abstracted from a broader geopolitical agenda marred by controversial presidential declarations, it nevertheless has the potential to offer a somewhat different coverage of the continent. One can only hope that it avoids the temptation to officially “curate into being” “exceptional” artists (Dovey), tapping into the all-too-familiar image of Africa as “the supreme receptacle of the West’s obsession with, and circular discourse about, the facts of ‘absence,’ ‘lack,’ and ‘non-being,’ of identity and difference” (Mbembe).

Africa 2020: Artistic, digital, and political creation in english-speaking African countries

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on 3rd July 2018 in Lagos that a Special Season would be organized in France, from June to December 2020, to mark a renewed partnership with Africa, a “varied, strong and diverse continent that will play a part in our shared future”. The peer-reviewed journal of Aix-Marseille Université research centre on Anglophone Studies (LERMA), E-rea, has decided to seize the opportunity of Africa 2020 to dedicate a special issue to contemporary artistic, digital, and political creation in English-speaking African countries. Heeding Kenyan political analyst Nanjala Nyabola’s advice to eschew the too reductive ‘Africa rising’ and ‘Africa failing’ narratives in favour of ‘Africa being’ stories, this special issue wishes to focus on “stories reflecting the ambivalence, complexity, challenges and opportunities of African societ[ies] in an increasingly connected world”.
