The seminar is the meeting point between different SPHere teams that are interested in mathematics. It fosters dialogue between philosophers and historians of mathematics while focusing on textual sources. Speakers are encouraged to make their sources available to the participants.

History and polemics: historiographical debates and the public space
Ever since history became an academic knowledge, historiographical debates have been exceptional moments of construction, condensation and dissensus, often resulting in historiographical turns. Controversies around specific themes have divided entire fields of knowledge production, bringing into light different, often contrasting conceptions, methodologies and practices of historical knowledge. Such debates were, at the same time, moments in which the description and interpretation of the past represented a public intervention in the present, in which the defense of a certain way of making sense of history was also a way of taking of sides in a specific contemporary political discussion. Historiographical polemics were therefore moments in which historiographical knowledge had to confront in the public space other approaches to the past, thus making visible, and challenging, the paradigms that rule the historical discipline and public history.

Cet atelier du congrès de l'Institut des Amérique souhaite favoriser un dialogue entre spécialistes de diverses aires culturelles des Amériques autour de la nourriture. Il s’attachera à mettre en lumière l’intérêt des food studies pour l’étude des Amériques dans une perspective tout à la fois transdisciplinaire, panaméricaine et s’ouvrant sur le plus large champ chronologique possible, des périodes préhistoriques jusqu’aux périodes contemporaines.

Ce troisième numéro de Photographica voudrait explorer les échelles de la photographie, c’est-à-dire s’intéresser à la géographie de l’histoire du médium ainsi qu’à l’histoire de sa géographie, mais aussi aux connexions entre différents espaces, à diverses échelles - micro ou macro - et à ce que ces rapprochements produisent en termes de mises en contexte(s) et de production des savoirs, de relations entre les sources, de méthodologie et de réflexions théoriques.

The ongoing global health crisis, rather than overtaking the strike action in France and the UK, has instead highlighted social discriminations even further – exacerbated by its accompanying economical and existential difficulties. Indeed, public funding both for the health system in particular and research in general appears crucial to guarantee fair social policies. However, during the past decade, in research and teaching, as well as in the arts, circumstances have become very stringent: project funding, performance agreements, management via evaluation and performance indicators are more common than anytime before. The right to fail is thus obviously threatened by an ideology of success built by the neoliberal economy.

The "Annales" ad regional history, regional history and the "Annales"
Cet appel à contributions est destiné à un numéro thématique des Annales de Normandie sur l'histoire de l'historiographie régionale, à paraître au second semestre 2021. Il s'agit d'une réflexion sur les rapports entre les revues d'histoire régionale et les Annales d'histoire économique et sociale, fondées en 1929 et devenues en 1946 Annales. Economies, sociétés, civilisations. Deux axes principaux de recherche sont proposés : l'analyse de la place et de la fonction de l'histoire régionale et la réception des travaux publiés par les revues d'histoire régionale dans les Annales de 1929 aux années 1970; l'analyse des modalités de la réception et de la diffusion du paradigme des Annales dans les revues d'histoire régionale sur la même période.

Graphic design. Ways of doing research
The graphic design field has been witnessing a steadily growing interest in research. A new wave of researchers recently emerged. However, without a formally defined discipline, these researchers generally work from within other disciplines, using sometimes very different methods, frameworks and references. This one-day conference will be questioning these theoretical frameworks and methods by those who are designing and using them. What are “designerly ways of knowing” and ways of doing that are specific to graphic design research? The discussions will help us develop a shared paradigm and establish a common ground for the discipline.

Pagaille journal - call for submissions for the second issue
Pagaille est une revue numérique biannuelle indépendante de littératures et médias comparés, fondée par des chercheuses et chercheurs en littératures comparées. Elle a pour objectif de promouvoir l’approche comparatiste dans le champ des sciences humaines et sociales. Comme son nom l’indique, la revue entend explorer des champs particulièrement riches de la recherche actuelle, des espaces intellectuels en pagaille au sein desquels le comparatisme entend se frayer un chemin et apporter un éclairage spécifique. À ce titre, les démarches inter-, intra-, et transmédiales ont toute leur place dans la revue. Le second numéro de la revue est consacré à la question des humanités numériques.

Call for papers - Epistemology and methodology
Formulating hypotheses, establishing truth: from work on sources to the writing of history
L’hypothèse et la preuve sont intrinsèquement liées aux études en sciences humaines et sociales depuis leur constitution en disciplines scientifiques. Face à la complexité de son objet d’étude, le chercheur avance, de manière provisoire, des hypothèses, des propositions d’explications et d’interprétations qui seront ultérieurement validées ou réfutées, ce qui l'incitera à faire évoluer son approche et conditionnera sa manière de rendre compte de sa recherche. Ces journées d'études se donnent pour objectif d'interroger la méthode de jeunes chercheurs dans leurs domaines respectifs : quelle source est considérée comme fiable et crédible ? Qu'est-ce qui permet de valider ou réfuter une hypothèse et, plus simplement, d'affiner un raisonnement ? En fait, qu’est-ce que faire une hypothèse et qu’est-ce que prouver ?
