  Urban planning and the principle of equality in Africa

  Today, the African city is far from offering equivalent conditions and opportunities to all its inhabitants and many Africans found it difficult to access urban life. Social inequalities are becoming more and more spatial, and both strengthen each other to favour devastating territorial segregation regimes and spaces of violence, pollution, congestion and lawlessness. In terms of justice and equity, many cities and neighbourhoods suffer under an urban disorder, an infernal mechanism of informal housing, poor housing, difficult accessibility, and a very poor quality of the urban environment. In the name of the right to the city, one is entitled to build his dwelling, to invent his habitat anywhere, no matter how whenever the authority is failing. And yet, the inhabitants of these «informal» facilities are not entitled to the city: their city is not theirs.

  Populism: Theoretical Confusion, Contexts of proliferation and Comparative Experiences

  Although most researchers unanimously agreed on the modernity of populism, this should in no way discourage us from further examining the implications of this phenomenon and its origins in ancient history. The search for the historical roots of populism, that some relate to early times, is only an attempt to establish its origin. However, the subsequent transformations of populism in meaning and practice have made it difficult to discern its limits. Apparently, this critical approach seems to be inaccessible due to many considerations, including the transformations of populism in terms of concept and practice to the point of almost losing its first forms.  According to this approach, it is more likely that real beginnings of populism coincided with the emergence of modern democracy showing signs of deficiency.

  Journalism and innovation in the era of the digital

  « Journalisme et innovation à l’ère du numérique » est un colloque international qui met sous la loupe les pratiques journalistiques dans les différents types des médias dans une optique d’innovation. Des facteurs économiques, sociaux, techniques, etc. amènent les acteurs du secteur de la presse à innover dans leurs pratiques. L’impact des outils informatiques en réseau tels que les moteurs de recherche, les médias sociaux et les outils de veille informationnelle et d’agrégation des données ne sont que des exemples des changements observés dans le secteur. Pour faire face à plusieurs pressions et enjeux, les professionnels adoptent des choix créatifs, font incessamment des ré-adaptions, innovent, voire inventent de nouveaux concepts et techniques. Ce colloque se propose d’examiner les pratiques éditoriales, les modèles économiques, les techniques adoptées dans les entreprises de presse et leurs diverses retombées sous l’angle de l’innovation.
