  Rencontres d'histoire et de philosophie des sciences

  The seminar Rencontres d’histoire et philosophie des sciences aims to promote a history and philosophy of science in which, in the words of Aldo Mieli (1935), “the unity of scientific thought” is “brought to the forefront, in relation to the multifaceted developments of particular sciences”. In order to do this, it seems imperative to us to involve all those who have an interest in the history and philosophy of science in its most diverse expressions in order to consolidate a community which, to exist, must regain its collegiality.

  Curiosity, Intellectual Enterprises and Scientific Explorations in the Writings of Women in the Early Modern Period (16th-18th centuries)

  The subject of this international conference is the participation of women in the development of scientific ideas from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment. It welcomes reflections on women’s intellectual contributions to the creation of the « Republic of Letters », and how female curiosity was connected to the development of a new rationality that opened new paths towards modern science, while simultaneously being stimulated by the marvellous and the strange, as was manifest in the creation of scientific cabinets and collections of rare objects. It aims at encouraging reflections on the concept of female scientific curiosity. This will allow us to discuss the construction of a female subjectivity emerged from new approaches towards collections of naturalia.

  Société de philosophie des sciences congress 2021

  Le VIII^e congrès de la Société de philosophie des sciences se tiendra à Mons (Belgique) du 8 au 10 septembre 2021. Des soumissions sont attendues sur le thème « Sciences et scientificité » : science et pseudoscience, enjeux imposés par l’évolution des pratiques scientifiques (par exemple, données ouvertes, sciences participatives, publications de résultats négatifs), incertitude de production d’ignorance (expertise scientifique, fake news, marchants de doute, etc.), valeurs de la science, intégrité scientifique et évaluation de la science, culture scientifique (public understanding of science). Comme à chaque édition, ce thème n’est pas contraignant et des soumissions sur d’autres thématiques en philosophie des sciences sont les bienvenues.

  Of pictures and what they think

  Ce séminaire veut en premier lieu se montrer digne de ce mot sur lequel on passe d’ordinaire trop rapidement : il aimerait contribuer à ensemencer. Il tourne autour des deux mots grecs de logos et eikôn, le verbe et l’image pour employer une fois des traductions reçues et commodes. Cela dit on a depuis longtemps renoncé à traduire effectivement le premier, au-delà du prologue de Jean, et il sera plus prudent de faire de même pour le second, sans l’assimiler trop vite à ce latin image qu’il conviendra lui-même de démêler.

  VII forum franco-latino américain de bioéthique

  Comme les précédentes conférences, ce VII^e forum franco latino-américain de bioéthique vise à promouvoir une approche comparative intégrée des questions en discussion, adoptant la méthodologie des sciences sociales pour donner une analyse critique du sujet. Il s'agit aussi de créer une opportunité pour les chercheurs de présenter un état de leurs travaux et de renforcer le réseau de coopération académique. Étant ouvert aux pays d'Amérique latine et des Caraïbes, d'un côté, et à ceux d'Europe, d'un autre côté, le forum mettra particulièrement l'accent sur les transformations sociales et  les mécanismes mis en place tant au niveau régional qu'universel pour traiter des questions liées au changement climatique et à la bioéthique.

  Jacques Ellul and Violence

  PJCV seeks articles exploring themes of conflict and violence in the life, work, thought, and intellectual legacy of Jacques Ellul (1912-1994). An “atypical, uncategorizable thinker, transgressing disciplinary borders” (François Dosse), Ellul penned a vast corpus of provocative and original writings in two broad categories: first, sociological writings analyzing elements of twentieth-century western society as expressions of technique (understood as a rational and willful drive will towards ordered efficiency); second, essays in protestant theological ethics and meditative biblical interpretation. These writings bring the voices of Ellul’s three major influences—Søren Kierkegaard, Karl Marx, and the Swiss Protestant theologian Karl Barth—into stimulating dialectical conversation about politics, technology, art, media, communications, institutional evolution, morality, language, anarchy, revolution, urbanism—and notably, violence.

  Dans la 6ᵉ année dans cette pandémie du Covid 19 jamais le contact avec le vivant dans notre corps mais aussi dans nos milieux de vie n’aurait été plus vital et incertain. Comment décrire cette vitalité d’un corps devenu laboratoire, intouchable et mutant ? Comment habiter cette nouvelle émersion du vivant ? Nous discuterons dans la danse, l’écriture, l’écologie, l’autonomie, les jeux traditionnels et l’autosanté comme autant de modalités de contact.
