Édition bruxelloise 2021

Le festival interuniversitaire et transfrontalier Jeunes Chercheurs dans la Cité est une initiative franco-belge ayant pour but de valoriser les travaux des jeunes chercheur·e·s en sciences humaines et sociales. Depuis sa création en 2008, et en collaboration avec l’université de Lille, ce festival se donne comme objectif de sortir du cadre universitaire et d’offrir un espace de dialogue, en proposant plusieurs cycles de conférences destinées au grand public. Cette année, l’édition bruxelloise se déroulera les après-midis des 20 et 27 février 2021, en ligne. Les échanges se concentreront avant tout sur l’époque contemporaine et exploreront diverses thématiques en interrogeant, notamment, l’histoire de la Maison de mode Chloé, l’éducation des jeunes aux relations affectives et sexuelles, ou encore le discours de Theresa May dans une société où s’affrontent cosmopolitisme et populisme.

Bearing Witness to Traumatic Experiences: Cultural Productions of Uyghurs in Exile

PhD position in Asian Studies

This Ph.D. position is funded by a MIS (Mandat d’Impulsion Scientifique/ Incentive Grant for Scientific Research) project: “Bearing Witness to Traumatic Experiences: Cultural Productions of Uyghurs in Exile”. Uyghurs are a Turkic-speaking people based at the border of Central Asia and the north-western part of China. Massive internments and arrests of hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs have taken place in the region since 2016, including the Uyghur elite. In these conditions, centers of the cultural production of the Uyghurs have shifted from their native land to the diaspora spread across the world. This project looks at Uyghur diasporic cultural production that aims at drawing the world’s attention and bearing witness to the various abuses perpetrated at home by the Chinese government. The whole project analyses selected poems, short films, video clips, and dance and music performances to tackle new transmedial forms of testimonies in the Uyghur case.

Société de philosophie des sciences congress 2021

Le VIII^e congrès de la Société de philosophie des sciences se tiendra à Mons (Belgique) du 8 au 10 septembre 2021. Des soumissions sont attendues sur le thème « Sciences et scientificité » : science et pseudoscience, enjeux imposés par l’évolution des pratiques scientifiques (par exemple, données ouvertes, sciences participatives, publications de résultats négatifs), incertitude de production d’ignorance (expertise scientifique, fake news, marchants de doute, etc.), valeurs de la science, intégrité scientifique et évaluation de la science, culture scientifique (public understanding of science). Comme à chaque édition, ce thème n’est pas contraignant et des soumissions sur d’autres thématiques en philosophie des sciences sont les bienvenues.

Si l’humanité s’est depuis toujours confrontée aux maladies infectieuses, les vagues successives de confinement quasi-mondial induit par la pandémie Covid-19 semblent être à l’origine d’une prise de conscience et d’invitations à penser le monde « d’après ». C’est dans ce contexte que ce colloque est organisé afin de questionner et de penser le monde « d’après » au prisme des communications organisationnelles. Le présent appel invite donc, dans une première phase, à proposer des recherches, recherches-actions ou encore recherches-interventions, observant ou visant à observer, questionner et/ou analyser des discours, des réalisations et des actions mises ou à mettre en œuvre pour penser voire concrétiser ce monde « d’après » au prisme des communications organisationnelles.

Comics On the Outside

In his doctoral dissertation La Bande dessinée et son double, Jean-Christophe Menu puts forward the notion of a “corpus hors-champ de la bande dessinée” to describe “an entire corpus of works that undoubtedly belong to the field [of comics] but is not integrated into its History, and hence is not recognized as an integral part of the field” (2011, 432). This conference aims at seizing this complex and hard-to-translate notion of the corpus hors-champ, locating an ‘outside’ of comics. Beyond its specific use in Menu’s theoretical discourse, this notion can facilitate the convergence of various research interests to bring forward objects for scrutiny that were held at the margins of comics studies.

Domestic accumulation, decluttering, and the stuff of kinship in anthropological perspective

We invite submissions of abstracts considering the following sorts of questions: What is the relationship between storage and the labor of kinship? What kinds of possessions are sources of obligation? Which are experienced as social or animate beings? What social practices and spatial processes surround waste, excess, and the riddance of objects from the home? How might local ethnographic concepts like hau orbrol inform the anthropological understanding of attachment to possessions, recycling, or the circulation of second-hand objects? When is accumulation a valued social practice, and when is it morally suspect? How is the space of storage constructed in relationship to the social space of the home, and how might this reflect on the local category of stored things? We invite authors to consider how practices such as storage, stockpiling, and purging of belongings can be approached anthropologically in order to provide both nuanced ethnographic depth and broader cross-cultural and historical perspective. Interdisciplinary perspectives are also welcome.

L’ancrage social et citoyen de l’hôpital, objet d’un précédent colloque organisé par la Société française d’histoire des hôpitaux (SFHH), ne saurait être compris sans faire référence à ce qu’apporte aujourd’hui l’hôpital, parfois dans des conditions difficiles, dans le domaine de l’innovation médicale et aussi organisationnelle, les deux aspects étant étroitement liés. C’est pourquoi cette rencontre nationale et internationale est organisée sur le thème de l’innovation médicale et hospitalière, hier, aujourd’hui, demain. Technologies, chercheurs et patients. Les études attendues pourront concerner une période allant de l’Antiquité à nos jours, avec une attention particulière accordée à la mise en contexte des innovations médicales et hospitalières.
