Mental maps": between memory transcription and symbolic projection

TRANSCRIPT

The notion of "mental maps" will therefore be considered according to two different meanings and uses: 1) the internal representation of a space travelled through (cognitive map) and 2) the representation of a set of entities or concepts (mind map). The terms "memory transcription" can be understood as the translation and recording on a graphic support of elements present in the mind. The terms of "symbolic projection" are conceived as the fact of externalizing by the means of signs or symbols on a graphic support, the two types of representation: the representation of a traversed space or the representation of a set of entities or concepts. The points of contact, crossover, reversal, between what could be called "representation of space" and "space of representation" are little explored. How can we better apprehend the complex notion of "mental map"? The question of memory transcription? Of the "symbolic projection"? Can we identify meeting points between these two polarities and if possible a continuum?

Philosophy and the economy of emotions

L’objet de ce colloque est de faire dialoguer philosophes et économistes sur le rôle des émotions dans la collecte d’information (grâce à la curiosité ou au courage, par exemple), dans l’évaluation des états du monde (rôle de l’empathie), dans la motivation (on peut notamment peser au rôle joué par le regret et la honte dans le respect des règles ou des engagements pris envers soi-même) et la prise de décision prudentielle et non-prudentielle. Toutes les approches sont bienvenues : l’histoire de la pensée (économique et/ou philosophique), les études de cas, les études expérimentales, les études théoriques, les travaux multidisciplinaires, etc.

The neurosciences and psychoanalysis - a possible partnership?

Un partenariat possible ?

Les neurosciences s’intéressent au système nerveux, la psychanalyse étudie le psychisme humain. Deux disciplines différentes, un point commun : l’être parlant, doté d’un cerveau et d’un désir inconscient. Freud, inventeur de la psychanalyse, a lui-même commencé sa carrière en tant que neurologue. Aujourd’hui, pour être psychanalyste, il n’est pas nécessaire de passer par la formation neurologique. Pour autant, ces deux disciplines, neurosciences et psychanalyse, se rencontrent car toutes deux travaillent avec l’être parlant : par l’étude du cerveau pour les premiers, par celle du désir inconscient pour les seconds. Nous verrons au cours de cette journée d’études comment psychanalyse et neurosciences peuvent s’allier pour une meilleure prise en charge du patient. Cette journée s’inscrit dans l’esprit du travail en partenariat, par lequel chaque spécialiste travaille de concert avec l’autre.

Design and emotion, physiology, neurocognition

This first special edition, DNArchi 2021, aims at capturing analysis, experiments or tutorials focusing on designing through the measurement of emotions, physiology or neurocognition. New measurement techniques make it now possible to capture our emotions and monitor our cognitive and physiological activity. Applied to design, these tools open new perspectives to study digital design by measuring users’ perceptions of the built environment with the potential to enhance it or by measuring designers’ own design activity and processes.
