Call for papers - Epistemology and methodology
Archéologie et fouilles en contexte difficile
Journée doctorale de l'école doctorale 112 « Archéologie »
L’édition 2021 de cette journée sera consacrée au thème de l'Archéologie et fouilles en contextes difficiles. Qu’il s’agisse des limites environnementales, institutionnelles ou politiques, l’exploration et l’étude archéologique souffrent parfois de freins quant à l’accès aux données primaires. Cette journée vise à élaborer les typologies des situations auxquelles les archéologues de tous les horizons géographiques et culturels font face, ainsi qu’à présenter les solutions et compromis auxquels les professionnels de l’archéologie ont recours pour contourner ces contextes. Cette journée s’adresse principalement aux doctorant·e·s issu·e·s de tous les parcours en sciences humaines et sociales et travaillant sur l’archéologie, soit dans des contextes géographiques, climatiques, et environnementaux spécifiques (submersion, pergélisol, aridité et isolement, etc.), soit dans des contextes politiques et institutionnels verrouillés (restriction des permis, conflits armés et prédation des sites, etc.).

Call for paper EAA 2021
This session is based on the ambition to revisit the "type" as an analytical and theoretical concept inorder to re-activate type-sensitive archaeological research or to develop genuine alternatives. We invite scholars from varying backgrounds to interrogate our apprehension of types, and to re-consider the basic explanatory value of types andtypologies, especially so vis-à-vis computer-based methods, emerging theoretical frameworks and, more generally, the consequences of such approaches and research frameworks for our understanding of types and typological thinking as core concepts ofarchaeological practice.

Économie politique et fiscalité dans l’Orient hellénistique et romain
Le projet de cette journée serait de faire dialoguer des historiens, philologues, papyrologues, épigraphistes et archéologues spécialistes d’économie et de fiscalité antiques afin de découvrir comment ces deux disciplines pourraient plus étroitement travailler ensemble et mettre en commun leurs savoir-faire techniques et théoriques.

Frontière·s. Revue d’Archéologie, Histoire & Histoire de l’art aims at providing an Open Access epistemological framework for Ancient and Medieval scholars. It focuses on the polysemous and discussed term ‘border’. For its fifth issue, the authors are invited to write on the theme “Edges of gender”.

Les pratiques antiquaires, dans leur ensemble, ont depuis leurs origines, nécessité le recours à la description iconographique pour archiver, inventorier et classifier les productions matérielles du passé. Le croquis, le dessin, l’estampage, la photographie ont ainsi accompagné la diffusion du savoir archéologique et entraîné une mutation des pratiques exploratoires, dont les méthodes ont mis des siècles à se mettre en place, pour arriver a la création d’une discipline archéologique structurée. À cet égard, l’archéologie, en tant que science moderne, s’est en grande partie fondée sur ce système d’enregistrement des données, faisant passer l’homme de terrain d’un simple chercheur de trésor à « l’homo archeologicus » (A.Schnapp). C’est donc cette volonté d’archivage visuelle qui a permis de poser les fondements d’une approche de plus en plus précise et rationnelle des vestiges archéologiques, en explorant leurs natures, leurs formes, leur chronologie et leur contexte de production.

The junior researchers and PhD students from the Anthropology of the ancient world curriculum of the PhD course in Classics and Archeology are promoting the fourth edition of the seminar cycle Classicamente. Dialoghi Senesi sul Mondo Antico. This year's edition will focus on the varied methodologies and hermeneutical perspectives which represent the scientific guidelines followed by scholars in anthropology of the ancient world ever since its development. It will also focus on those approaches that today contribute to a constant enrichment and renovation of this field of study. Our goal is to offer to all those who take part the chance to present their work, be it the result of long research or elements of a work in progress, in an enviroment open to discussion between different perspectives (anthropological, philological, historical, archeological, semiotic etc.).

This period of major societal changes initially saw the coexistence of Roman institutions and new social structures, especially those emerging from the early Christian religion. The societies of Late Antiquity are therefore characterized by a mosaic of political, social, and cultural entities, both in the heart of the Empire's provinces and on their borders.

An international round table organized on May 4 and 5, 2019 at the University of Salahaddin (Erbil, Iraq) highlighted the interest for a collective work that will address the question of Christianity in Iraq at the turn of Islam. Les Presses de l’Ifpo launch a call for papers related to this theme.

From quarries to rock-cut sites. Echoes of stone crafting
The conference aims at carrying on the international debate on the archaeological investigation of rock-cut spaces and stone quarries, considered as aspects of the same mining phenomenon: places in which specific empirical and handcrafted knowledge related to stone working is expressed and conveyed. The conference envisages a diachronic approach and therefore all case studies are welcome, without chronological limits.

XXXIIIe colloque de l'Association française pour la peinture murale antique (AFPMA)
Le XXXIIIe colloque de l'AFPMA se tiendra à Bordeaux, au musée d'Aquitaine, les jeudi 26 et vendredi 27 novembre 2020. Il est un lieu d'échange autour de toutes les problématiques et recherches ayant trait à la peinture murale et au stuc de l'Antiquité, en France et plus largement dans tout l'Empire romain. Archéologues, chercheurs, étudiants, historiens d'art, restaurateurs, muséographes, iconographes et bien sûr toichographologues sont donc invités à proposer une communication de 10 ou 20 minutes.
