Mapping Aristocratic Spaces. Estates, Forests, and Gardens (Europe, 16th–19th Centuries)
Whether used to map or describe a territory, to develop, exploit, or promote it, the map gradually emerged as one of the primary tools for the appropriation of aristocratic spaces in modern Europe. This cartography, widely utilized by historians of parks, gardens, forests, and estates, has however rarely been studied for its own sake. This conference therefore aims to examine the methods of its production, uses, and dissemination, while exploring its role in the transformation of the environment and in the reconfiguration of an aristocracy that considered land ownership as a foundation of its social identity.

Caring for Madness in Medieval and Early Modern Europe: Approaches, Practices, and Representations
Adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, this conference seeks to examine the perception, treatment, and representation of individuals affected by madness in the medieval and early modern periods, whether madness took the diverse forms of melancholy, possession, wandering, or unreason. To this end, it proposes to engage with the contemporary notion of care, understood as an ethics of care, and to historicize it beyond its modern conceptual framework, in order to reassess the relationship to vulnerability and dependency (and interdependency), as well as the dialectic between assistance and marginalization in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Capteur de scènes : la littérature contemporaine transposée au théâtre
93e congrès de l'ACFAS
La production théâtrale contemporaine des vingt-cinq dernières années comprend un nombre considérable de spectacles qui constituent des adaptations d'œuvres littéraires, et ce, tant au Québec qu'en Europe. Pour faire suite à un premier colloque sur l'adaptation théâtrale organisé par les membres du groupe de recherche Capteur de scènes (« Classiques en scène », UQTR, 2023), ce deuxième colloque vise à poursuivre le travail amorcé alors sur les procédés de transposition mis en œuvre par les créateurs et créatrices lors du passage d'un texte littéraire vers la scène, dans une série de spectacles portant, cette fois-ci, sur des œuvres littéraires des XXe ou XXIe siècles (romanesques ou autres).

Music and urban sociability in late eighteenth and early nineteenth century Europe
New methods, new perspectives
The city is a privileged field for encounters between historians and musicologists. The work of recent decades has seen a significant renewal, particularly with regard to the Modern Age, during which music became a central component of the urban experience. The diversification of themes is the key ingredient to this renewal. Institutional studies have given way to more complex approaches that combine artistic, social, political, cultural and economic issues to show how music was negotiated in urban contexts. Through the central theme of urban sociability and an unusual periodization, this workshop aims to highlight the original work of emerging scholars in which the spatial issues of urban musical practices are predominant, in order to compare sources, methods and questions.

Enfin, l’autorité du passé et l'aspect commémoratif contribuent au fait que l’évocation d’un exemplum constitue un argument de poids dans la rhétorique. Rather than a traditional conference, this event emphasizes dialogue, exchange, and co-creation of ideas. We especially encourage contributions that challenge established narratives, introduce new perspectives, or explore underexamined bilateral connections across Europe and Japan.

Cours d’automne 2026 de l'institut d'histoire de l'art et du département d'histoire de l'université d'Heidelberg
Ce cours de langue intensif de cinq matinées a pour but de réactiver les bases linguistiques nécessaires pour travailler dans les institutions de recherche allemandes et de faciliter ainsi les échanges universitaires. Les après-midis sont consacrés à une introduction aux bibliothèques et aux archives, aux musées et aux collections, au travail des instituts de recherche et au patrimoine culturel. À cette fin, outre Heidelberg, des visites à Karlsruhe et Mannheim sont prévues. Une soirée sera organisée pour présenter le système universitaire et les carrières en Allemagne.

Film Festivals and Middle Eastern Cinemas
“Regards” Journal
For the better part of a century, international film festivals have been essential to the global circulation of Middle Eastern cinema. Entanglements between festivals and cinema from the region date back to at least 1946, when the Egyptian film Dunia (dir. Mohammad Karim, 1946) screened at the first full edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, films from the Arab world, Iran, and Turkey have been mainstays on the festival circuit, premiering and screening at the Big Five (Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, and Venice), as well as smaller festivals around the world.

Playful Participation as an Artistic Methodology: Histories, Curatorial Practices, Museums
The third issue of the new series of Senzacornice Journal. Studies on the Contemporary Art System takes as its point of departure two seminal experiences centered on spontaneous and self-managed play. These are understood both as models for social and communal construction through audience engagement, and as investigations into the mutually productive relationships between human and machine, and human and object: The Model – A Model for a Qualitative Society (Stockholm, Moderna Museet, 1968, curated by Palle Nielsen) and Play Orbit (London, Institute of Contemporary Arts, 1969, curated by Jasia Reichhardt). In both cases, the curators conceived play as a voluntary activity—mediated or unmediated—capable of restoring to the participant a freedom of action that is increasingly constrained or denied within institutional contexts.

Encounters with Death: Macabre Imagery and Symbolism across the Arts, Texts, and Cultural Traditions
22nd International Congress of the Danses macabres d’Europe (DME)
The congress invites scholars to reflect on the representation of death in art, literature, and history from the Middle Ages to the present day. Taking the iconic theme of the Dance of Death as its starting point, contributions may explore both the iconographic and literary traditions associated with it, including the Encounter of the Three Living and the Three Dead, the Triumph of Death, the Ars moriendi, the Memento mori, the Vanitas, and eschatological themes connected with the Last Judgement. Papers may also address funerary monuments and monumental sepulchral art, including gisants, tombs, and cemeteries, as well as the social practices surrounding death, such as funeral rites, the commemoration of the dead, and obituary traditions.

MuDanza’s anthropological approach to the image, along with iconographic analyses of the context in which the dances developed, aids in the investigation of the visual culture of the period under study, while a gender perspective allows for the reconstruction of the image of women as a central element of medieval choreographic narrative. The study unfolds within the field of cultural history and the visual culture of dance in medieval Europe and its enduring influences, aiming to provide a novel perspective on the role of women as dancing bodies, as typological figures in biblical exegesis.
