Taxation and public debt (13th-18th centuries)
Les trois premières demi-journées du colloque seront consacrées à l'analyse de la mobilisation des ressources publiques qui a accéléré la construction des États médiévaux et modernes en Europe occidentale. Les arbitrages entre modes de financement par la fiscalité, le crédit et l'émission monétaire, les orientations liées aux divers types de régimes politiques, l'émergence des premiers marchés financiers pour les titres de dette publique fourniront trois axes thématiques majeurs. La dernière demi-journée sera consacrée à : « ressources publiques et construction européenne, dettes souveraines et gouvernance de la zone Euro ». Les intervenants s'interrogeront sur la récurrence des questionnements entre hier et aujourd'hui et l'impact de la crise des dettes souveraines sur le processus d'intégration européenne. -

Call for papers: Gender in the European Town, Medieval to Modern
As places which fostered and disseminated key social, economic, political and cultural developments, historically towns have been central to the creation of gendered identities and the transmission of ideas across local, national and transnational boundaries. The Conference will be organised in three main strands. We encourage papers that address one of the strands, or proposals that cross the theme boundaries. They should also explore what influence gender has on the shape of towns themselves, as a force for change. We welcome local studies as well as more comparative approaches and encourage historiographical, theoretical and empirical considerations. -

The Department of Economic History hopes to appoint two Lecturers in Economic History from 1st September 2012. Following in a long, distinguished tradition of research and teaching, the Department of Economic History uses concepts and theories from the social sciences as a starting point for studying the development of real economies and understanding them in their social, political and cultural contexts. Teaching and research in the Department has a global emphasis, and the expertise of current faculty is diverse in subject matter, theoretical emphasis and methodology. -

If comparison between national or regional contexts has been a driving force for the historiography of the « industrial revolution », and if environmental history has been immediately written on a global scale, the evolution of environmental and risk regulation is often studied according to the national, regional or local scales of the institutions producing the regulations. The aim of this workshop is to invite historians to consider how comparison could advance our understanding of the different ways of regulating risk and environment. -

4th International Congress on Construction History
Après Madrid (2003), Cambridge (2006), Cottbus (2009), Paris a été choisie pour accueillir le quatrième congrès international d'histoire de la construction. Trois écoles d'architecture (Paris-Malaquais, Paris-La Villette et Versailles) ainsi que le Conservatoire des arts et métiers pilotent cet évènement. L'histoire de la construction apparaît par définition hybride, associant aussi bien la conception que la réalisation, comme la préservation, la technique que la culture, et se trouve de fait interdisciplinaire. Y participent aussi bien des historiens de toutes disciplines (archéologues, juristes, économistes, historiens de l'art, etc.) que des praticiens (ingénieurs, architectes, entrepreneurs, artisans). Plus de 350 chercheurs, enseignants et praticiens, vont présenter le dernier état de leur recherche dans ce champ et en débattre sur quatre sites parisiens et versaillais. 6 conférences plénières seront délivrées par des personnalités reconnues par leurs pairs. L'atelier sur la « fraude » affronte cette question en proposant d'étudier, à partir des fréquentes pratiques illégales des acteurs sociaux, la régulation croissante du commerce méditerranéen à l'époque du mercantilisme. -

Notre intention dans cet atelier est d’analyser les stratégies que les empires ibériques déployèrent au cours du XIXe siècle et au début du XXe siècle pour gouverner les colonies tout en les faisant varier en les adaptant. En pleine époque de l’impérialisme et passé la première guerre d’indépendance coloniale, la métropole espagnole adopta une série de mesures libérales à Cuba et Porto Rico. Peu avant, la création d’un Ministère d’outre-mer en tant qu’organe autonome d’administration mit en évidence l’intérêt renouvelé pour la gestion des territoires coloniaux. La création de partis politiques et l’incorporation des Antilles au système parlementaire métropolitain constituent des changements fondametaux sur lesquels nous devrons nous pencher. -
