  Ce colloque a pour objectif d’étudier et d’analyser l’œuvre journalistique, didactique et artistique de différents mouvements anarchistes américains. Les questions de fond et de forme seront bien entendu abordées, mais nous nous interrogerons également sur les stratégies mises en place pour la diffusion de publications souvent interdites, ainsi que sur les interactions entre création artistique et pensée libertaire.

  Debt, Democracy, Citizenship: A Political History of public debts

  Europe, United States, since the late 18th century

  Organized as a workshop, this symposium aims to explore the public debt as the locus for political debates and conflicts. It brings together case studies analyzing aspects of the link between politics (especially in its social or participative dimensions) and the indebtedness of states. The discussions will help shed new light on such central concepts, for our understanding of the modern political world, as sovereignty, citizenship, democracy, and solidarity.

  Avec la croissance des échanges internationaux, l’exacerbation des rivalités coloniales et l’amplification des pratiques de guerre, les questions relatives à la neutralité dans l’espace atlantique acquièrent une importance inédite au XVIIIe siècle. L’activité des neutres participe au redéploiement des réseaux commerciaux en temps de guerre, permet à de nouveaux acteurs de s’immiscer dans le commerce transatlantique et invite à une réflexion sur la formation d’un espace euroaméricain économique, diplomatique et politique.

  Anglo-Saxonism and Anglobalisation in Question

  Les relations anglo-américaines sont abordées le plus souvent dans le cadre de l’histoire des relations internationales et de la diplomatie. Nous proposons de les étudier plutôt à travers l’histoire de projets internationaux, qu’ils relèvent du commerce et des affaires ou qu’ils poursuivent des objectifs politiques ou réformateurs au sens large. Le but de la journée d’études est de préciser dans quelles circonstances britanniques et américains évoquent leur histoire et leurs traditions communes, ou à l’inverse mettent l’accent sur ce qui les différencie. D’une manière plus générale, il s’agit d’enrichir la réflexion sur les pratique et les cultures de « l’anglo-saxonisme » au XIXe siècle.

  Accidents and Emergencies

  Risk, Welfare and Safety in Europe and North America, c. 1750-2000

  The aim of this conference is to take stock of the present by focusing on modern Europe and North America from roughly 1750 onwards. It welcomes historians from all sub-fields (social, medical, cultural, etc.), scholars from other disciplines such as sociology and cultural studies. Risk, welfare and safety have long been sites of historical inquiry. This conference takes this literature as its point of departure, and encourages both general and trans-national appraisals of the history and nature of modern "risk societies", as well as accounts which focus on particular technologies, practices and discourses. In sum, the aim of "Accidents and Emergencies" is to: rethink the history of risk, welfare and safety; encourage a more integrated approach to their empirical study and conceptualisation; open up new historical and sociological perspectives through which we might better grasp the present.
