  Negritude and philosophy in France in the 20th century: problems, history and controversy

  La négritude, mouvement littéraire, théorique et politique pluriel, qui se forma dans la période des années trente et après la deuxième guerre mondiale, à Paris, autour des figures de Léopold Sédar Senghor, Birago Diop, Aimé Césaire et Léon Gontran Damas, tissa des liens ténus et profonds avec la philosophie. Pris dans un dialogue constant avec les courants philosophiques français de l’après-guerre, certains penseurs de la négritude firent aussi le pari théorique d’affirmer la négritude comme philosophie, philosophie énonçant une certaine distinction de la personnalité et / ou de la culture africaine. Cette affirmation suscita de nombreuses controverses dans l’espace intellectuel de l’Atlantique noir, tout en engageant un questionnement sur les enjeux d’une véritable théorie anticoloniale de l’émancipation, dont l’aboutissement serait celui d’une décolonisation concrète, matérielle et symbolique, mais aussi épistémique dans ses intentions.

  Reading English-language Arts and Literature with the Later Lacan

  Lacanian analysis of literature and the arts has not been in vogue in France for some time now. Following the publication of Écrits in 1966, there was a period of analytic fascination with the imaginary capture of the mirror phase and its intersection with the structures of the symbolic in both literary and film studies. Since the 1980s, academic engagement with Lacanian theory in the cultural field has been in a slump, and this for several reasons: the reputed difficulty of Lacan’s style as apprehended through Ecrits, the opposition of numerous feminist critics, and the general decline of theory in the field of literary studies. Today, in light of the growing force of scientistic conceptions of the human subject (at the level of intelligence, behaviour, reproduction, the limits of the body, mortality), Lacanian theory finds renewed relevance in its unwavering postulate of the subject as singular, unique and incalculable, insusceptible to scientific conclusiveness.

  Inspirée par le titre d'une étude de Max Milner portant sur la pulsion scopique (On est prié de fermer les yeux. Le regard interdit), cette journée d'études se propose d'interroger la thématique du regard sous les trois aspects notionnels qui en découlent (« voir », « se voir » et « être vu »), telle qu'elle est représentée dans la littérature hispanique contemporaine.
