  First International Symposium on Primitivism

  The First International Symposium on Primitivism aims to shed new light on a debate that has been given little attention in the field of Humanities, and which focuses on the relationship between Art and the Primitive. The disciplinary foundation of these studies is in History and Art Theory. However, it is also necessarily interdisciplinary, to the extent that we are interested in understanding the aesthetic phenomena that constitute Western art, not only from the perspective of an artistic history, but also – and especially – from its imbrications with aesthetics, culture, society, and politics.

  Beyond the functional character - the ideal dimension of material culture

  La culture matérielle constitue souvent le principal, sinon l'unique, moyen d'accès aux sociétés passées et son interprétation hors du contexte social qui l'a produite est souvent contrainte par le manque d'informations disponibles. L'existence d'une dimension « idéelle » au sein de la culture matérielle des populations humaines actuelles est largement documentée. Peut-on néanmoins accéder aux mêmes éléments pour les sociétés du passé à partir des vestiges anciens ? Dans le cadre du volet formation du LabEx des sciences archéologiques de Bordeaux, nous proposons une journée d'étude dont l'objectif est d'interroger plusieurs disciplines (archéologie, ethnographie, anthropologie sociale, etc.), toutes confrontées à l'homme et son exploitation de l'environnement, afin d'ouvrir une discussion d'ordre épistémologique.

  The Office as an interior (1880-1960)

  The so-called “second industrial revolution” meant a significant growth in the tertiary sector (banks, insurance companies, etc.); at the same time new administrative bodies arose both in industry and at agencies and public authorities. This went hand in hand with a massive increase in the numbers of employees. The employee became the socio-professional figure of the urban modernity, whereas the professional woman became increasingly important. The symposium addresses the development of the office in order to analyse the interdependency between physical and social space, materiality and practices, strategies and tactics, structures and individuals. Likewise, it is intended to approach the office from a historical perspective, as attention is directed towards the significance of the office for structuring and transforming the sociocultural situation from the turn of the last century through the end of the 1950’s.

  Doctoral students workshoip in visual anthropology (ADOCAV)

  Les étudiants en anthropologie qui font de l’image leur terrain d’étude (que ce soit à travers la pratique du cinéma documentaire, de la photographie, ou l'analyse d’œuvres et archives audio-visuelles) sont nombreux mais dispersés dans les différents centres de recherche de l'EHESS. La vocation de ce séminaire est de rassembler les étudiants en anthropologie visuelle dans une optique d'échange et d'approfondissement des travaux en cours, afin de créer une dynamique commune de recherche tout en respectant la pluralité d’approches, de méthodes et d’objets, propre à notre discipline. Notre objectif pour l'année 2012-2013 est de nous rencontrer une fois par mois, et de regrouper deux interventions d'étudiants, librement proposées en amont par des doctorants ou des étudiants de Master, en fonction de leur thématique commune.
