Organisée dans le cadre du programme collaboratif 7 du Labex HASTEC, « Cultures savantes numériques », cette journée d'étude interdisciplinaire propose une réflexion sur les transformations actuelles de la notion d'autorité. Comment l'administration de la preuve évolue-t-elle, en particulier dans ses relations avec les documents et les données considérés comme originaux ? Une large place sera faite aux discussions.

Investigations and their graphics: iconographic figurations through the eyes of society
Ce séminaire entend réfléchir à l'articulation du savoir en sciences sociales : si l'écriture orthographique reste aujourd'hui le mode privilégié de la transcription scientifique, de multiples supports (du dessin ethnographique aux dispositifs de surveillance vidéo) attestent et / ou délivrent une appréhension autre des faits issus du monde sensible. Les séances du séminaire introduiront différents cas d'études questionnant les modalités techniques de ces restitutions et leur fondement épistémologique. Ce faisant, le séminaire mettra en examen l'architecture théorique qui repose jusqu'àlors sur une perspective restreinte, limitée par l'horizon d'entendement de ce monde autrement plus complexe.

Over the past decade "network" has become a buzz-word in many disciplines across the humanities and sciences. Researchers in archaeology and history in particular are increasingly exploring network-based theory and methodologies drawn from complex network models or social network analysis as a means of understanding dynamic social relationships in the past, as well as technical relationships in their data. This series of conferences aims to provide a platform for pioneering, multidisciplinary, collaborative work by researchers working to develop network approaches and their application to the past.

In the humanities, a close look at networks and relationships, whether formal or informal, personal or social, of information or of knowledge, of transportation or of communication, has always been an important subject of study and, at the same time, a powerful analytical process. In computer science, the study of networks and of methodologies for analysis and visualization of these relationships is nowadays an increasingly well understood and practiced area of knowledge. In both the humanities and computer science, researchers are well aware of the dynamic nature of data and knowledge when viewed through the lenses of space and time.

Im Rahmen des Romanistentags in Würzburg wird ein Workshop zum Thema "Grundlagen der digitalen Textedition" angeboten. Der praxisnahe Workshop richtet sich an RomanistInnen, die auf der Basis von Textmaterialien forschen und Interesse haben, aktuelle Methoden der Erschließung und Edition von Primärquellen kennenzulernen oder diese Methoden möglicherweise in einem eigenen Projekt anwenden möchten. Ziel des Workshops ist es, mit der Theorie und Praxis der digitalen Textedition, d.h. der digitalen Repräsentation von Text und dessen Eigenschaften, vertraut zu machen. Besondere technische oder fachwissenschaftliche Vorkenntnisse sind nicht notwendig.

Data bases and digital resources: topical issues
Cette journée d’étude fait suite à celle organisée en juin 2010 par le centre d’histoire « Espaces et cultures » de l’université de Clermont-Ferrand autour des bases de données et des ressources numériques. Elle fera un bilan d’étape de l’évolution des offres dans ce domaine et présentera différentes réalisations appliquées à la musique, à la littérature, à l’histoire du spectacle et aux arts plastiques. Les difficultés applicatives dans un contexte général de regroupement et de recoupement des données, le besoin d’interopérabilité et de pérennité des outils figureront parmi les thèmes abordés par les intervenants.

Reading historical sources in the digital age
After the inaugural DHLU Symposium in 2009 that focused on "Contemporary history in the digital age" and a second edition which tackled the methodological and theoretical implications of considering websites as primary sources (March 2012), this third edition will focus on the use of online thematic research corpora. Given that more and more sources for contemporary history are being made available online as digital research corpora — as on the CVCE’s site — and following on from the first two editions which examined the methods used to develop these sources, this third edition of Digital Humanities Luxembourg will focus on the various ways in which this material is used by humanities researchers, particularly contemporary historians and more specifically specialists in European integration.

La visualisation de données dans les sciences humaines, après un premier essor dans les années 1960 dans le courant de l’histoire quantitative, puis son rejet dans les années 1970, connaît un renouveau certain ces dernières années. Des logiciels de visualisation faciles d’utilisation, associés à une augmentation de la puissance de calcul des ordinateurs, ont mis à la disposition de presque tout chercheur des méthodes quantitatives et des outils de visualisation jusque-là très complexes. Quelles sont les données qui peuvent être représentées ? Quels sont les avantages et les inconvénients des différentes séries de données et outils disponibles ? L’association Histoire et Informatique consacrera le prochain numéro de sa revue, publiée chez Chronos, à ces questions.

Les éditeurs de l’Encyclopédie, somme des savoirs et projet philosophique, entendaient, disait Diderot, « changer la façon commune de penser ». Que savons-nous aujourd’hui de cette entreprise d’édition des Lumières ? Qu’en faisons-nous ? Où en sommes-nous aujourd’hui des études sur l’Encyclopédie ? Où en est la numérisation de l’équipe ARTFL, dirigée par Robert Morrissey ? Quelles corrections ont- elles été apportées ? Quelles innovations ont-elles été conçues, et dans quel esprit ? Comment les recherches peuvent-elles être articulées, mises en valeur, voire facilitées par les outils électroniques ? De nouvelles démarches de recherche se dessinent-elles et, avec elles, de nouvelles pistes pour l’histoire culturelle et intellectuelle des Lumières ? Ce colloque international, qui célèbre à Paris 7 le Tricentenaire Diderot, ouvre le débat.

Two AHRC Doctoral Studentships
As part of an exciting partnership between The Open University, The British Library, The National Library of Scotland and the National Library of Wales, we are able to offer a three-year, full-time AHRC-funded studentship for doctoral work in History (to commence October 2013). While proposals will be considered for any project seeking to utilise the collections of one or more of the three national library partners, we are particularly interested in receiving proposals relating to, evaluating or utilising crowdsourced historical data.
