  L’équipe de recherches sur l’Afrique (ArScAn, UMR 7041 du CNRS), l’université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne et le département de la recherche et de l’enseignement au musée du quai Branly organisent à Paris un colloque international sur l’art rupestre d’Afrique et vous invite à faire parvenir dès à présent vos propositions de communication ou de poster. L’organisation d’un colloque international à Paris sur ces manifestations artistiques a pour but de réunir de nombreux chercheurs qui exposeront l’actualité de leurs travaux et confronteront leurs opinions.

  Ces journées d’études ont pour objectif l'étude des institutions culturelles et des politiques publiques dans les domaines de la création, de l’art et des patrimoines. Il s’agit de revenir sur les récentes politiques muséales observées en Afrique et les nouvelles initiatives de planification de la création et des patrimoines dans le contexte de la diversité culturelle et du développement durable. Ces journées se consacrent également à la construction et à la circulation des modèles de politiques publiques et la manière dont les représentations socioculturelles influent sur la traduction normative des principes juridiques.

  Conference, symposium - Prehistory and Antiquity

  From religion to sanctuaries. Religious architecture in Roman and Byzantium Africa

  En 2000, le Groupe de Recherche (GDR) « Cultes et sanctuaires de l’Afrique romaine et byzantine » réunissait pour quatre ans sous la direction de François Baratte des équipes de chercheurs travaillant sur l’Afrique antique, plus particulièrement sur l’actuelle Tunisie. Il nous a donc paru souhaitable, plus de dix ans après l’achèvement du GDR, de réunir les acteurs principaux de ces études en les invitant à confronter leurs points de vue sur la question des rites, de l’organisation du culte ou des édifices. Parmi les questions qu’il sera souhaitable d’aborder citons, à titre d’exemple les formes pré-romaines des sanctuaires et leur survie après la conquête, les spécificités des cultes africains, la permanence des sanctuaires païens après la christianisation de l’Afrique, la réutilisation des lieux de culte païens, les traces archéologiques des conflits entre catholiques et donatistes, les spécificités byzantines de l’architecture chrétienne d’Afrique.

  Heritage in war

  Journée de rencontres et tables-rondes consacrées au patrimoine dans la guerre. Cette journée aura lieu à l'École du Louvre le mardi 26 mars 2013 de 9h à 15h et est organisée par l'association Mémoires du patrimoine. Elle réunira des spécialistes de différents horizons : universitaire (Paris III), chercheur (CNRS), conservateur (musée du Quai Branly), journaliste (France Culture), institutionnel (UNESCO, ICCROM), historien, pour examiner sous différents angles la question du devenir des biens culturels mobiliers et immobiliers au cœur des conflits armés à partir de la situation actuelle au Mali. Les communications seront pluridisciplinaires, entre questions politiques, éthiques, juridiques et déontologiques, et sont ouvertes à tous.

  Black Portraiture(s)

  The Black Body in the West

  The city of Paris, as an international cultural hub and a Western metropolis wielding considerable influence over the notions of art and modernity, was deemed the perfect setting for Black Portraiture[s]: The Black Body in the West, the fifth in a series of conferences that have been hosted by Harvard University and NYU since 2004. Black Portraiture[s] aims to explore the various means of manufacturing and promoting self-representation, as well as the notion of exchange, from the 19th century to the present day in fashion, film, art, and archives.   How are these - positive and negative - images displayed, and how do they define, replicate, and transform representations of the Black body? How and why did the black body become a tradable commodity in the global marketplace and what gives it its legitimacy? And just as importantly, what are the responses given and their implications? Can the representation of the Black body be truly liberating both for those who are identified with its image and for its beholders? Could a deracialisation of the black body take place, thus promoting cultural reunification and fostering reappropriation as well as various forms of expression beyond the limits of race? The Black body, as imagined by the West, has always been fertile ground for observation and debate. Yet the representation and depiction of Black people has often been predicated upon prevailing attitudes on race and sexuality. The conference draws on the ideas and works of both leading and emerging writers, photographers, scholars, artists, curators and filmmakers of our time, and will address the broader issue of Africa in the popular imagination. It is also significant that this project has benefitted from the widest possible collaboration.

  American Art in Dialogue with Africa and the African Diaspora

  Since the beginning of the transatlantic slave trade, Africa has played an important — albeit shifting, contested, and often unseen — role in the history of art of the United States. Conference organizers seek original, innovative scholarship investigating heretofore unexamined aspects of this transatlantic dialogue, from the visual culture of slavery and abolitionism to American modernism; from the Black Arts Movement to the contemporary art world.
