  Mapping the History of the Bohemian Lands and the First Czechoslovak Republic (1880-1938)

  It seems that in contrast to the contemporary history of former Czechoslovakia, the research on the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries has remained static in the last couple of years. How can the recent historiography on the Bohemian lands be encouraged? Which approaches and research fields emphasizing the mutual relationships between local, national and transnational actors promise new perspectives and interpretations of multiethnic society? The workshop aims at critical discussions of the state of research and of ongoing research projects related to the Bohemian lands and the First Czechoslovak Republic, focusing on comparative or transnational questions in the given period.

  Élites maghrébines et subsahariennes formées en URSS/Russie et dans les pays d’Europe de l’Est

  Ce colloque international est organisé sur une base pluridisciplinaire (histoire, sciences politiques, sociologie, anthropologie, littérature, géographie, etc.), autour de 4 grands axes de discussion et de réflexion. Interviendront dans  ce colloque 35 chercheurs et doctorants du Maghreb (Algérie, Maroc, Tunisie), d’Afrique subsaharienne (Bénin, Cameroun, Congo, Ethiopie, Sénégal), d’Europe (France, Grèce, Roumanie), et de Russies ainsi que des témoins, anciens étudiants résidant au Maroc, ayant fait leurs études en URSS ou en Russie, à Cuba, ou dans un pays d’Europe de l’Est.

  La Hongrie engloutie. Cartographie de l'univers de Gyula Krúdy

  Cette année, on commémore les 80 ans de la disparition d’un écrivain que Sándor Márai lisait quotidiennement dans son exil et qui est l’auteur magyar préféré de Imre Kertész. Cet écrivain, que d’aucuns qualifient de « Maupassant magyar », voire de « Proust hongrois », fut sans doute l’un des meilleurs connaisseurs de la Hongrie historique dont il nous a laissé une véritable cathédrale littéraire. Amoureux des femmes et de la bonne chère, cet auteur n’est pas inconnu en France mais sa redécouverte est loin d’être aboutie. Le premier colloque francophone consacré à Gyula Krúdy tente de porter un regard critique sur l’œuvre de l’auteur et souhaite inciter traducteurs, maisons d’édition et lecteurs français à se familiariser avec l’univers de ce prosateur inoubliable. La manifestation réunit des spécialistes de Krúdy, ainsi que des littéraires et des historiens hongrois et français.

  Women in Educated Elites of Pre-Socialist and Early Socialist East Central European Societies

  The opening up to modernity of East Central Europe since the late 19th century was marked – among other things – by a triple process generating structural transformations of established post-feudal societies and affecting often radically the status of women. Due to post-feudal conditions of competition for social standing, positions of influence and prestige, hitherto unknown forms of inequalities appeared in the very process of accumulation of political, economic, professional, cultural an educational assets henceforth necessary for the access to the elites. Female professionals, though they could rarely achieve advanced careers in the ruling elites in the old regime, so much so that they often encountered even various forms of public rejection and discrimination on intellectual markets, significantly participated in the framing of the way of life of the new middle class. This workshop will adopt a gender-focused perspective cocentrating on the place of women (training, education, professions) and bringing to light the differences and inequalities existing between male and female members of educated elites.

  Vie quotidienne et expériences des étudiants africains en URSS et en Russie

  Avec les indépendances et la décolonisation, des étudiants africains sont venus très nombreux en URSS ; mais moins souvent en Russie après la Perestroïka. Quelle a été l’histoire de ces étudiants partis se former, non pas dans l’ancien pays colonisateur, comme cela était souvent le cas, mais dans un pays étranger envers lequel ils étaient souvent partagés entre admiration et méfiance ? Comment y sont-ils arrivés ? Quelles ont été alors leurs expériences ? Qu’est-ce qui les a marqués ? Quel a été leur devenir professionnel et politique ?

  Phantom Borders in the Political Behaviour and Electoral Geography in East Central Europe

  We understand phantom borders as political borders, which politically/legally do not exist anymore but seem to appear in different forms and modes of social action and practices today, as for example voting as one part of political behaviour. The conference deals with historical borders, made visible in discourses and maps concerning political behavior, as for instance in electoral maps. Our aim is to challenge the historical interrelation of current political behaviour, the involvement of geopolitical images, internal as external governance contexts and transnational networks for (re)constructing historical borders as phantom borders. We are interested in case studies especially about East Central Europe, but also in studies from all over the world combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, addressing the main questions of the conference. Case studies may address different levels and scales from local to transnational.
