    Second International Conference on Uyghur Studies

    2e colloque international sur les études Ouïghoures

    The Uyghurs are one of the ten most populous stateless nations in the world. While they have a long history of cultural accomplishments and political influences, they have remained marginal in international scholarship given their ambiguous position both in regional studies and in geopolitics. This conference is the second attempt to bring together a broad spectrum of the international community of scholars whose research is focused on the Uyghur people’s history, culture, society.

    Europe and the Arabian Peninsula (19th-21th centuries)

    This international workshop will deal with the relations between Europe and the Arabian Peninsula in the Modern Era, from the beginnings of globalization until the most recent economic and strategic developments. In order to study both the evolution and the contents of such relations, two main topics will be given a more particular interest: Cultural and Scientific Relations in connection with the change of mutual understanding from the 19th to the 21th century; Evolution of Economic relations from the 19th to the 21th century.

    10th Annual World Customs Organization PICARD Conference

    The World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Azerbaijan Customs are pleased to announce the 10th annual WCO PICARD conference. The conference will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 8 to 10 September 2015. Papers should focus on Customs or, more globally, the regulation, dynamics, and practices of the international trade of goods. The WCO encourages attendance and paper submissions from anthropologists, economists, geographers, historians, lawyers, and political scientists. The WCO is particularly interested in interdisciplinary approaches regarding contemporary systems of regulation and control at borders.

    Collapse and Resilience of German Missions 1914-1939

    World War I had a devastating impact upon German Missions (Roman Catholic and Protestant). A general description of German mission fields A.D. 1914 will be the starting point of the Conference. Case studies are welcome on particular territories such as Togo, Cameroon, East Africa, South-West Africa, South East Asia, Pacific area, China, India, Middle East. Attention will be paid to the predicament of local "orphaned" Christian churches and communities, and to the relationships between the local leadership with the new foreign missions authorized by the Allies instead of German personnel.

    Canadian Studies Review n°78 (June 2015)

    This special issue of Etudes Canadiennes/Canadian Studies intends to explore what’s new in Canada, nine years after the coming to power of the Conservatives, four years after Stephen Harper won the election that gave him a majority government, and at a time when Canada is getting ready for the next federal election. While the contributions are expected to focus on the Conservative initiatives to shape this new Canada, they will also be encouraged to compare them with other societal and global factors that may contribute to a changing Canada.
